Hi fellow 'crab lovers,
I am desperately seeking either a new or s/hand nut which retains the diff pinion (behind the governor) of the auto transmission.
Or, failing that, can anyone confirm the thread make/size please and I'll look at getting one made.
My thread is damaged, however I am fairly certain it is 1 1/8" (inch and one eight) UNEF at 18 TPI.
UNEF (Extra Fine) is an uncommon thread and that is the problem.
I am in Tasmania (Australia) so could be a freight logistics problem for some, so just confirming the thread would be a huge benefit, thanks.
Many thanks, Cheers, Richard,

Hi Richard. I can't claim any real knowledge of the automatic, but I do have the BW workshop manual. Well, you never know... Auto trans by Penguin 45, on Flickr That one. Given your description, I think that this is you are talking about: Auto trans by Penguin 45, on Flickr Item 5 is what you've described. Note the reference to a very odd nut indeed! You my wish to cross reference this with the parts listings in DOCUMENTS. Study the password carefully! You want Fiche 1, section K. It'll give you the part numbers, but not the tech specs. Hope that's some help, Chris.

Thanks for your input Chris. Yes, that is indeed the nut I am referring to. I also have that Manual Supplement, and (luckily) quite familiar with the tranny as I've done a few.
I've been offered a nut from a wrecked local car owned by a friend who is carrying out a mammoth resto on a ute. He bought a couple of wrecks "just in case" he needed something!
Just a simple (ha!) task to go to a paddock about 1.5 hrs away and remove from trans which is still in the car.
Easy, so long as I chose a day it's not raining!
Thanks again for your thoughts.
PS: Message to owners of auto cars..... you should remove the end cover (speedo end) and check the nut is tight which quite likely isn't. Do it now before the thread gets destroyed!!
Cheers, Richard.
