Hi Experts, I've noticed what can only be described as a rattle from the front passenger side wheel developing over the last couple of hundred miles. It sounds similar to a worn ball-joint but i don't feel it through the steering wheel in the same way as a ball-joint. It happens when going over something rough (pothole etc.). With the wheels on the ground when I grab the top of the wheel and rock it in-and-out I hear a clicking noise which is not present when I do the same on the other front wheel. With the car jacked up the clicking is not so evident but there is slight movement. In a RWD car I'd have assumed it was a wheel bearing - is this likely to be the case? I'm a bit of a FWD novice. Reading the workshop manual about removal of the hub/driveshaft it all seems a bit more advanced than I'd be happy with attempting (plus requirement of several special tools). Is it as difficult as the manual suggests? I notice also some evidence of leakage from one of the boots (I think it's the CV boot) - see photo attached. Any thoughts or suggestions on the likely cause of the "rattle"? thanks James.

It could be the hub working loose on the splines, this can cause all kinds of odd rattles. Check the nut is tight to 150ftlbs Hi Experts, I've noticed what can only be described as a rattle from the front passenger side wheel developing over the last couple of hundred miles. "rattle" diagnosed by my local friendly garage as play in lower ball-joint. Just out of interest, what size is the hub nut? I don't have anything bigger than 1 5/16 (for the steering wheel) so want to make sure I get the right size. Useful to have in the toolbox, I guess James.

1 3/4" - make sure you buy a deep socket, then it'll do the ball joint as well.
