This is sacrilege, I know; just shoot me now. My 1800 auto is smooth as butter...except for that clunky, misplaced shifter on the dash. Has anyone heard of a floor mounted conversion, with a modern, easy-to-use T-bar?

Minis, 1100s, Maxis, Allegros and Metros were all contemporary-ish transverse-engined BL cars with floor shifters. I've no specific information but it might be an avenue to explore.

Thanks, Penguin. I wondered about those. Or the Tasman/Kimberly range, maybe. I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this...just so I can avoid the pitfalls.

Not sure if it makes any difference but the crab was the only one where the autobox didn't share the engine oil?
