Harris Mann was a well known British designer, who worked for BMC/BL and became chief stylist in his time there from the late 60's into the early 80's. He was responsible famously for the Allegro, Princess, Metro and less famously for his input into a raft of BL products into the 90's.
Things I hadn't realised he had done were the Mini Clubman front end styling and, more relevant to us here perhaps, he produced the designs giving the Aussies the Kimberley and the Tasman.
I enjoyed Harris's company on many occasions in his role as Patron of the Wolseley Owners Club. He was very erudite and funny and would patiently answer questions regarding his time at BL. He would also produce samples from his portfolio for us to examine, pointing out that the Allegro that BL built wasn't the Allegro which he had designed.
Practical Classics November 2023 magazine has an extended interview with Harris and is well worth a read.
Harris died on August 14th 2023. I will miss him.
Chris.
