Hi all, While fitting a new fuel pump etc, I found the left rear corner of the tank flange quite rusty and crumbly. Although there's no sign of a leak or soak through of fuel, I'm a bit concerned as to how close to the sealed edge this might be. Should I be looking for a replacement tank yet or is it salvageable with treatment??

There are a number of repair methods for steel tanks. The POR15 stuff is a popular one. There is also one which works by encasement, although I didn't spot a supplier straight off. The other thing which I did was to reinforce the edges where the tank bolts to the rear frame with a couple of "L" brackets, which the bolts pass through. Spreads the load a little. Chris.

Thanks Chris The crumbly flange isn't so much where its mounted, but on the corner. Its not "that" bad yet but it isn't going to get better.
I'll just have to keep an eye on it and grab a good used tank if ever one becomes available. Meanwhile I think I'll rust treat it for now. You'd think with all the scrapped landcrabs there would be a few used/restored ones knocking around. There probably is but nobody knows about them lurking in scrapyard sheds etc dozens of them. Ho ho ho.
I know they can be made new but wow! The cost. Wouldn't it be great if they could be blow moulded from plastic, like modern cars??
