Any idea what could be causing this on my landcrab? Its a wolseley Six, but I dont think it varies much between models. Any ideas or suggestions would be great, ive had it apart during the restoration and everything appears OK. Could it be a worn out cable?

I'd try easiest first - just moving the wiper arms a spline or two the other way. Mine was never perfect there was always a small amount of slop so I just adjusted till I got a happy-ish medium.

Agree with Andrew. If here is notable play, the problem will be the wheel boxes, rather than the operating cable. They can be bought separately, but the joy of fitting.... Probably as much fun as me changing my heater unit!

I know what you mean about the wiper boxes, they are a pig of a thing to replace, particularly with the earlier 18/85 i restored. The nuts corroded on the shaft and i had to destroy it to remove it. I had these boxes out on this car and they appeared OK, i dont recall seeing anything of concern.
Are they known to wear out fast? I believe the wiper boxes are the same as whats found on some MG models. I have tried different positions on the spline, ive got it as good as i can get. My main concerns is damaging the window rubber, its starting to cut into it.

You can try this: If there is too much play in the wiper system, there is a simple and cheap solution. Remove the wiper arms. Mark the shaft on the wiper box. Remove the cover on the wiper motor and mark the wire. Pull out the wire and turn the shaft on the wiper box 1/2 turn. Turn the wire 1/2 turn and fit it again. Remember lubrication. The trick is that the teeth on the back of the wheel on the wiper box have never been used. So it's like new again. Peter

Thank for that tip Peter. It is good to know there is a much easier and cheaper remedy to addressing the annoying slop.
