Hi everyone I need to pick your brains again, we are looking to change the colour of our Austin 3 litre from Charlton Grey (GR18) to Blackberry (BLVC3) apparently your lovely cars were also painted in Blackberry according to some colour charts I have seen. My dilemma is that no where can I find the formula to get some paint mixed, so my question is does anyone here know the formula or have any suggestions for me. Thank you in anticipation Louise

Hi Louise, this one of those questions without a truly correct answer. The actual paint maker was ICI. Their reference was 4027. The make-up was 0915 88%, 0903 8%, 0901 1% and 0922 3%. The problem is that ICI changed their numbering system, then the paints were reformulated as they moved away from acrylics into 2K materials and finally, they went out of business. *
You can probably safely say that 0915 was black, but as for the rest....
Chris.
*Dad was rather upset when they folded, as he was an ex-ICI chemist back in the day.

Hi thanks for that, I love the history that comes out with an answer. I knew someone on here would know something as you are all always helpful. As usual I asked around alot of people and hey presto someone had some paint mixed earlier this year and they have the formula printed, so according to that it is a mix of Bordeaux, Deep Black, Oxide red and Phtalo Blue, we are going to get some mixed this week and try it out before we commit. Thank you again and when the car comes back from paint I will update the photos. Louise
