Hi everyone,
Thought I'd say hello and introduce my 1800.
I've owned it for around 10 years and until about 3 years ago, it was my daily driver still on its original issue plates here in Australia.

I'd sort of moved on from it really, leaving it in storage when a property move meant I needed a modern car and it was starting to show its age with some problems that I didn't have time to fix and having a number of other cars waiting their turn.
I recently put it up for sale as I no longer have under cover storage but it seems no one wants it, so of course now I feel guilty and of course, there's a story behind that.
I had been looking for an 1100 or 1800 and ended up with a really nice condition Tasman (the Aussie 6 cyl version), but it had typical constant Leyland issues and I moved it on pretty quickly. An Austin mate of mine told me his Dad was thinking of selling his 1800 that he had bought and done a fair bit of mechanical work on as a replacement for his original car he had crashed.
A deal was done and the above car became mine. It wasn't apparent at the time that it was a massive coincidence. When I got home, I was going through all the original paperwork and discovered to my amazement that the car had come from a neighbour of mine when I was a teenager in the 80's, 4 houses down the street! It was then that I remembered looking at it lovingly one day when it was parked outside as the original family had recently had it resprayed. It was gleaming!
So some 30 years later it, by sheer fluke, was mine as the 3rd owner from new.
I got HEAPS of spares with it at the time, all of which I still have.
As you can see that spray job has reached the end of its life and I guess if I end up keeping it, I'll get around to repainting it again.
When I was driving it everyday, I started having CV joint noise and was able to source some NOS replacements. Several months later it developed a disturbing noise in the diff, so I took the plunge and removed the original driveline and fitted the spare I had. Its engine isn't a patch on the original which had been freshened up. I guess if I can sort the original engine diff problem out, it'd be good to refit it.
The guilt part comes from knowing its entire life history and that it has very little rust and would be easy to do up. It amazes me how underrated they are here as you would all know how well they drive and how much space they have..
I'm looking forward to trawling the forum to see what tech help might be available.
Cheers
Chris
