Hi folks. You find me finishing day one of my Morris 2200 tenure in a Premier Inn hiding from a massive foul-up on the M25. Upon picking the car up I have discovered a few things! Before that; goodness me what a nice handling car and a brisk engine, it has a wonderful feel and the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. So the negatives, or rather list of jobs coming. There is some micky-mouse wiring of the cooling fan and headlights. Neither work and my partner and I were treated to a burning smell when trying said lights. Hence me avoiding traffic at all costs as I watched the temperature gauge nudge its way towards "H", which I assume will be in the region of 110-120c, let's say I got a little tense! There are some under-dash switches that don't appear to do anything (might be a broken cooling fan override), and what I think is a DIY immobiliser as it's wired into the column. It has a moto-lita steering wheel which I dislike, and would love to revert to something more original. A couple of hours into our trip it developed some quite severe clutch slip. I wonder if this could be the result of muddy puddles, oil seeping through, or an imminent need for a new friction plate. The front passenger door locking mechanism doesn't work from the inside, and there is a wind whistle at speed around the door mirror area, so I may try removing them. Hi Nice looking car. We look forward to hearing more about it. Hopefully your clutch problem is not too dramatic!
I had an issue many years ago with spotlights setting fire to the steering column wiring on OKR. Luckily no major damage done only the column wiring and a melted cover. From that point I made sure fusing was appropriate, which it sounds like you may need to do! I can't blame anyone but a young me and a bodgy job! We live and learn!

Good unbattered steering wheels seem to be a bit scarce, but there is one advertised here,at PJ blanchard, ex military spares stockist. I'm not sure it's exactly the correct style for your car. I'm also looking for one but at £150??? Hmmm.
The slipping clutch could well be caused by an oil leak, or even a weak pressure plate,or stiff action when hot. Either way it will need replacing. As said before, Tony Wood from LOCI, will be the best source. If its caused by oil ingress from a worn crankshaft seal, you'll need to replace that at the same time as the clutch. I've never replaced a clutch on the E6 so I can't say what the job entails. The B series 1800 lump has to be removed for clutch and seal. Others will no doubt be able to tell you.
The E6, is known to run on the hot side, so it's Important to thoroughly check the cooling system to avoid engine damage. Does the cooling fan switch itself on? Could be a faulty temperature switch. The thermostat could be faulty or choked with muck, radiator and water passages could be sludged up so a good flush will do it good. Also, the radiator fins being front mounted could be choked with dead flies and muck. I think I'd give it real good flush and clean.
I hate micky mouse wiring. Best get it back to original if you can.
The car looks great and will be well worth the time, money and effort.

Car looks great - I had an 1800S but always fancied a 2.2 - am sorry you've got a few immediate issues to sort but rot is the only real cause for despair on these cars so fingers crossed you're Ok on that front. Wind noise - yes it was a minor issue on mine on one door - lots of fiddling around, new trim and so on made it better but in the end I just lived with it. It was only really apparent at very high speeds 80+ by the time I'd finished. Good luck with it all. Cheers Andrew

Perhaps the steering wheel is the same shaft diameter and spline count as the Minis, Minors, 1100s and so on? If so I think a Minor one would be free (I have one spare), suit it okay and will have an "M" horn-push.
The first thing I'll attend to is untangling the wiring, and my suspicions have been been confirmed by finding some clutch parts in the boot!

I'm 99.9% sure that the steering wheel fitting is unique to the 'Crab. Many thanks. As they go the clutch looks to be a doddle on this one and only really requires the removal of the battery to get at it. Actually, I can see it spinning away without removing anything at all - I think a rubber piece is missing!
Cleaning up the earth has brought the cooling fan to life, although only via the dodgy under-dash switch and not the sensor.
I had a look at the steering wheel to see if the Minor one would fit and am glad I did - the retaining nut was only finger tight! And hey-presto it fit.

I was wondering where KOR had got to. Used to live in Carlisle (and before that in North Wales), came to the Tatton Park show a couple of times, this is from 2018.
Clutch change is easy but don't underestimate the combined weight of the flywheel and pressure plate when you come to pull it off!

Recovering from a bit of a back injury so not minded to peer under the dash quite yet, however a test resulted in no exterior lights doing anything when the switch is on. The switch light flickers dimly when activitated, it may be doing nothing else.
My fixes ysterday amounted to discovering all the different bulb types and sourcing some LED replacements plus a compatible flasher relay.
Thinking about the noisy gearbox and diff (although importantly it's quiet at cruising speed/loads) - are the parts interchangable with the 1800s, and perhaps other B-Series vehicles, or is correcting that going to be a nightmare?

The gearbox casing and drive into the box are different between the B and E engined cars. That said, most of the internals of the actual gearbox are shared. It's a mixture of A55/60 and MGB parts. The complete parts listing is HERE when you want to study the minutiae of it all. Chris.

Had an assessment from my local mechanic. So here we go with some extras!
- KOR has had two people weld it before, one excellent, one not, and it will require a little more but nothing scary.
- Front wheel bearing play both sides.
- He agreed the wiring is absolutely terrible, there is something running from the front to back of the car along the exhaust.
- An electric fuel pump has been fit but not correctly mounted.
- Both front bump stops shot.
- Needs an exhaust, from the manifold back.
- Brakes need full service and fluid, clutch fluid needs replacing.
- Tracking is all over the place.
One thing I didn't note before was it appears the wrong type of engine coolant is in there at the moment (orange), that will be the first job now that I have replacement hoses from Anthony.
My list of jobs now has 24 items!

That's not too scary. Double check the wheel bearings - they're a taper set-up, so there should be some play. Wheel bearing info in the Technical Articles section. If the fuel pump has been added at the back, the exhausted wire may be the feed for that. The rear wiring should run up the offside A post, through the roof and down the rear pillar.
Tony Wood will have all the hydraulic parts.
