Hi all.
I'm trying to hunt down a nice steering wheel for my mk1 Morris. Mine has a badly worn and chipped surface. Tony Woods has checked his emporium but nothing nice in there. I have noticed one for sale at an ex military Land rover parts supplier but they want £149! That seems a bit steep.
Maybe a suitable steering wheel cover would suffice but who's the best supplier?
So,if anyone has a really nice one, or any ideas, I'm all ears.
Best regards
Jeff.

KR Classics (Roger and Kim Chaplin 01622 862149, rrogchaplin[AT]aol[DOT]com) do nice leather covers if you can do a bit of basic sewing.
The spline on the column is unique to the 'Crab, so aftermarket wheels are rare. Astrali used to do a centre hub to mount their wheels to. The hubs do pop up from time to time on eBay.
Chris.

I put a mountly steering wheel on mine mounted to an astral centre. I found that the ergonomics were not quite right so had a local engineer make an extension to the centre to mount the wheel on that brought the location of the wheel back to its original position. Without the spacer that’s about 25mm thick it felt that I had to reach forward all the time

As long as the wheel is structurally sound I'd go for the steering wheel cover option even if you have to pay a saddler/seamstress/someone with a high level of skill in this area - to do the stitching. It's period correct - for what that's worth - and as Snoopy says, doesn't upset the ergonomics. It'll look great and is probably cheaper than a new boss and wheel etc. How's the car going btw? Cheers Andrew

Hi Andrew sorry for delay.
I haven't yet decided on a steering wheel cover. The wheel isn't that bad, just scruffy looking.
The car is generally good. Haven't been out much this year yet, just the occasional 8 mile trot around the block.
I've noticed some up and down play in the top drivers door hinge, not a huge amount but it needs a look at..I'm guessing the pin is worn.
I emailed the suppliers provided by Chris, but had no reply yet.
Even if I take the door off getting the old pin out could be a pig of a job and using a drift with a BFH, could distort the A pillar as that half of the hinge is welded in place.
I've never been beaten by a job yet (other than attempting micro surgery on a tacho and I busted it). but some things are best left alone, at least until good and ready. It's one of those jobs that could go either way. Either a doddle, or judging by Chris's experience,a real pig. He ended up cutting and shutting the hinge with the help of a Blacksmith type of fella.
I'm not so adventurous these days and have to plan every move in advance, plus a plan B C D.

Used these guys to re-do my Mini steering wheel - although it was 15-20 years ago - came back as new..have no idea of cost... www.steeringwheelrestoration.com/Good luck with the hinge pin..I agree with you it could go OK or be a real headache. If it is definitely the hinge pin I'd be inclined just to give it a gentle helping hand when opening and closing the door if it isn't too horrendous!
