Found a few minutes to watch that. Got to be something wrong if "It steers like a canal barge".

The video brought back memories of how sweet the 2200 engine is and it's ability to cruise at high speed compared to the 1800. However, I also recall that away from the motorways the 1800 seemed to have more punch throughout the low to mid range and felt brisker and more flexible without the need to keep changing down gears. That appeared to be the case in the video with lack of low down torque quite apparent. I think the way it negotiated the chicanes could hardly be described as a barge!

That's interesting because my experience of the W6 was not too dissimilar. Bit gutless, not that good at turning in to a corner. I thought it must be that the engine was heavy, but apparently it is actually lighter. I wonder if that is counter intuitive for the crab. Slightly heavier is better? He was not that good at driving and was in the wrong gear a few times, so that wouldn't help. Anyway a totally different car than watching Andrew's 1800S bat round a track. Admittedly a modified 1800 and driven by someone who can actually drive a car round a track, but still.

Although the 2200 engine and transmission is actually a little lighter than the 1800, the latter may benefit by not having a radiator full of water ahead of the front axle which could increase the tendency to understeer and reduce the ability to turn into the corner? Having said that, I must admit the every crab I have driven or owned seemed to have handled slightly differently.

It is rather subjective on my part and not really comparing apples with apples! OKR had GB's with 185 65 newish tyres. The track was a little wider because of the offset and there was no bumpers on OKR. A fair weight saving!
The car in the clip sounds very screechy considering the speed, so as Chris pointed out it probably has some issues. We don't know how old the tyres are, which makes a massive difference as does correct wheel alignment!

I now own the 2200 in the video slowly working through its faults.
