Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for an alternative jack to avoid the side jack. My 1966 1800 has been extensively and properly rebuilt at least twice however the cill on one side has no holes for a jack. I know from photos the inner cill and membrane were replaced but I really don't want to go cutting holes. I never did like the side jack and my trolly Jack's are a bit big for hauling around in the boot.
I have looked at cheap scissor Jack but they always seem a bit flimsy and unstable for a roadside wheel change. Maybe someone uses a decent jack which will cover what I need. Any recommendations greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Jeff

I have an old scissor jack which has a decent sized footprint and a block of wood in case of emergency. No problems to date (Had to change a wheel once).
And we never go under a car on a jack, ever.

Same here, I used a combination of a scissor jack and an old bottle jack for added reassurance. As Chris said never go underneath!

Another vote for the scissor jack - have also used the Draper air bag thing that you connect to the exhaust. Air bag worked fine for me but it does seem to get mixed reviews!

I use a scissor jack from a Mk1 Hillman Avenger. The top happens to fit perfectly into the round hole in the rear displacer carrier and the front "chassis" leg.

Another scissor jack user here (Past tense - can’t use anything nowadays)

Thanks all for the replies. Looks like a scissor jack then. Maybe a substantial caravan jack or a screw type bottle jack if I can find one that will lower enough and a decent block of hardwood, which I have.
And NO! I don't go under cars without safe additional support But thanks for the reminder.

Just out of interest did you get to a solution you were happy with on the bonnet/wing gap front?
