There is a very slight possibility that we will need to consider moving hosting of the Forum.
It would be impossible to back-up the contents of the existing forum and re-load it into a new host. A certain amount can be saved by manually saving each thread and storing it remotely. These could be uploaded to a new host in a picture format and would not be interactive as they are now. However, they could be used as thread starters, allowing more content to be added as required.
To this end, all content from the Technical Discussion and Technical Articles and Support thread has been copied and stored over the past few days. This is a slow, repetative, boring process and to be honest it will be impossible to save everything.
The next step is to decide what else needs to be saved. I will endeavour to work my way through the various restoration threads and get them copied off. The big question is what else would you like to see saved? The Forum has a pretty broad spread and not all of it is directly 'Crab related. I would prefer to concentrate on the 'Crab stuff primarily, but anything of special interest can be targetted.
Please let David and myself know in this thread.
Nothing is going to happen immediately, or possibly even at all, but I'd like to think that we're prepared for the worst should it happen.
Chris and David, Admin.

Thanks to those of you who have already sent PMs. Just to clarify matters we are not looking for donations.
Chris has already spent many hours on the mind blowing lengthy task of backing up technical and support pages as screen dumps and is working his way through the members' restoration pages.
As a reminder may I refer you to his request as set out in his post below :-

As you know I'm without a Landcrab at the moment but will no doubt get one again at some point so feel vaguely OK having an opinion. It's a lot of work for one or two people. For what it's worth the technical and support pages are a definite and you've already done those. I'd bounce the restoration threads back to the individuals who created them to sort out - if they want the histories to be on the "new" board then they can do an edited version off line and load it up themselves. The other stuff I'd let go unless someone feels strongly enough to do it for you! Just grateful for the two of you in particular not seeing this as the perfect opportunity to step down/aside/have break! Cheers Andrew

Thanks for your thoughts, Andrew. Chris must take all of the credit for the hours of work he has put in to copying the technical and support pages plus the restorations. I have had minimal input to this task so far, but hopefully he will push some tasks my way soon!
It was way back in December 2010 when Chris and I joined this forum. I just can't believe how quickly the time has passed and it's not just the cars that have got older!

Your Cars, Restorations and Rebuilds threads have all been saved in their entirety, to go along with the Tech Articles and Tech Discussions. A total of around 930 images!
David is having a look at the Interesting Links section to see if there is a way of preserving the actual links as operable features. I'm going to have a rummage through Crab Chat and see about gathering some of the more useful and relevant threads.
Chris.

Wonderful job chaps. Plus side is that even if forum is safe it’s a grand backup.

Working links from 8985 posts have now been extracted and copied. No guarantee I haven't made a few errors but I'm not going to re-check them all again! I'll take a break before tackling the next section. Actually it was quite interesting stopping to read a number of the posts and made me realise just how much we have covered in the last 10+ years. I'm thinking of a way of creating an index /cross reference so it is easier to find a thread by subject. At present threads on similar items tend to be spread around but now we have an electronic list of all the headings it can be sorted as we wish. A project for another day! Thanks everyone. By far the biggest thanks must go to Chris for all his efforts in making this forum what it is today with your help. I think it is an invaluable and unique resource for new owners and old hands alike. Much of the content contains information that doesn't appear in any publications but is derived from personal experiences and offers solutions to new problems as they arise with ageing cars.
Hopefully we have done enough to ensure that if we do have to move to another platform most of your valuable contributions will still be accessible.

Thanks to everyone involved in this arduous task, although fairly new to this I am trying to catch up and appreciate the background work. If there is anything I can do to support the work you are doing, just say. Cheers, Tony
