Hi all. I'm in the process of replacing the flexible fuel lines in the engine bay. Currently, the car has Ethanol resistant black, chord braided hose from the bulkhead to the carb. The steel pipe on the bulkhead appears to be a good fit 5/16 I'd. The carb end has 1/4 inlet and is not a good fit. Its loose and has to have a hose clip tightened right up. The original was a simple spring clip.
I want to fit the correct steel braided flexible pipe with the correct rubber ends, as original.
I've got a new steel braided flexible pipe with rubber ends which is 1/4 I'd for the carb inlet.
So, how was this made to fit the larger steel bulkhead pipe originally? I doubt the flexible pipe had different diameter ends, and there was no fuel filter with different diameter ends. I know I could fit a filter but I'd like to know what the production arrangement was.
Thanks
Jeff

I presume you have the mechanical pump. I ran the 5/16 pipe from tank to pump and braided flexible connections. The 1/4 pipe from the pump to carb. And yes to get a tight fit I used S/S jubilee clips. Not pretty, but effective. similar problem with pipe from crank case breather (mark 3) I guess they used purpose made pipes. Had to pinch the breather pipe on to the carb.

Both mine have electric pumps at the rear, and the fuel lines under the cars have been replaced, so I can't really answer the question. The parts listing shows various pipes and hoses for the fuel system, notably BRT2405 as going to the carburettor, but there are no dimensions!

Mine has an electric pump at the rear. I'll have to see if the new 1/4 flexible will stretch over the 5/16 pipe (carefully). If that doesn't work, I have a short flexible steel braided pipe 5/16 which could be used with a 1/4 ×5/16 filter. As long as it looks reasonably tidy and is safe, I'll have to use that method. Thanks guys.
