Following advice from Chris and fitting instructions for the plastic protector for the ignition components, the 2mm HDPE makes a perfect material for the part.
Made a couple today.
Mine was simply stuffed in behind the grille, but now I realise it should be screwed in position using the holes in the front cross member, behind the bonnet latch.
