Interesting article on Mini engine oils which I presume may be regarded as relevant to the B series engine as well.

Although American centric, it must be worth examining the pedigree of some of the oils we swear by (or at ).
Particularly interesting is the note to take care we select an oil with a GL-4 rating to protect our gear trains, and his opinions on finding that diesel oils may be more suitable than “standard” oils.
He is also particularly scathing regarding the use of additives that may increase the level of ZDDP to a point where damage occurs.
Anyway, I realise that we all have our own favourites, but do we appreciate the changes that have been made to oils over the years.
Having pulled the pin from the grenade, I shall now retire post haste.
