Hi all, My 1968 Austin 1800 is a Mk 1 body (YAHS4) and according to the ID it was originally an Automatic Power Unit (18YA/RC/H 6***). Currently it has a MK 2 motor (18YE/RC/H 2*** S) attached to a manual transmission. The transmission is stamped 11662/2 . My query twofold please, does the 'S' on the current engine signify anything special. Secondly what does the stamp on the transmission tell me please. Hoping to work out the parts required during the rebuild. Cheers Steve

This might help you - HERE. Or buy the whole thing - HERE! Some of the other Oz members may be able to tell you more. Chris.

Hi Steve
I have seen a few OZ engines now and have not seen one with an S so it could well mean something.
Australian MK1 Salloon engines are
Standard transmission - 18AMW, 18Y Auto transmission - 18YA
Utes Standard transmission - 18YC Auto - 18YA
Australian MK2 engines
Standard transmission - 18YD Auto transmission - 18YE
Utes Standard transmission - 18YF Auto - 18YE
For the UK guys the U K engines have the number stamped on a plate and rivited to the engine where the OZ engines are stamped on the block in the same spot!

Sorry forgot about the gearbox number question! That is the only format I have seen on the manual OZ gearbox MK1 and MK2 and I believe is just the serial number with /2 after it and no useful info. Not sure what /2 signifies.
Let us know if you have seen anything different.
