Having totally overhauled the suspension I'm satisfied all is as it should be. No more clunks and crack noises.
However I'm now frustrated due to an annoying rattle, both sides, when driving over rough surface ita a loud metallic rattle and with the windows open sounds like something is rattling around in the hub caps or wheels.
During the overhaul, I invested in new MK1 calipers, and fitted new pads with stainless steel pins and anti squeal shims from Tony Wood. Has anyone else had this really annoying rattle? Is there a fix? Maybe none standard anti rattle springs?.
The old calipers were metric. We think probably from a Triumph TR6 but I wanted to go back to standard. The brakes work really well now but that rattle grrrrr, if indeed it is from the brakes but it sounds very much like it and it wasnt there before.
The steering rack Is quite new so I dont suspect that.
How annoying after all that work
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated

GRPFK5 brake pad fitting kit has the anti rattle springs in. This is for 3/16 pins as used on later cars with the metric callipers. You are correct about use on Triumphs but many others used them as well. My mark 3 (1972 Dec) has them fitted. I am hunting for springs/clips as well but looks like need to buy the kit. Moss and many others list them. I know what you mean about the metric fitting, all the rest of the brake fittings are UNF. Tony S

I've always used the Ford set - Escort/Cortina/Capri all used Girling M16 calipers.

Well, it's been a while since I've been on but I can report the rattling pads are now quiet. When new, landcrabs MK1 at least didnt have anti rattle springs.
I'd already fitted new imperial calipers, pads shims and new stainless pins from Tony Wood. I put the rattle down to oval holes in the new pads, rattling against the harder stainless pins. I got Tony to investigate and he sent me 4 springs which fit well and hold the pads in place. I didnt take a pic but they have a U shape which goes over the metal edge of the pad, and the tangs fit behind the top and bottom pin.
A tad fiddly but work very well and just a tiny smear of coppaslip between the parts.
No more clunks and rattles. Since then, I fitted a Smith's clock into the dash trim, a vacuum gauge and a rev counter (ex MGB). I also took up Tony's recommendation to swap the instrument panel lighting to LED also the boot and interior lamps have been changed to festoon LED bulbs. They are much brighter and give off virtually no heat..
In the dark, the panel lighting is clear and white and the Interior lights up like Wembly stadium. (Well, nearly) and my aging eyes are much relieved.
Now I've discovered a very slow loss of fluid in clutch and brake reservoirs. A quick feel under the pedals soon found the brake fluid weep, the clutch issue is the slave cylinder. I'm going to replace the lot with new cylinders and pipe. Looking at the clutch pipe steel bit, its rusted solid to the fitting on the master cylinder, so I doubt it will survive undoing. All I've got to do is work out how I can squirm my fat hands in to undo the pedals under the dash. More pain I guess.

I used to a sort of upside down thing in the drivers seat to get at the split pins and clevis. Last time, I took the drivers' seat out..... It's only four screws.
