Could someone please explain to me what they mean by the following? would anyone have any pictures?? "The sump guard fitted to the works cars was in two parts C-AHT 187, which bolted on to the sump and guard C-AHT 186. The gearbox guard will have to be fabricated but a Sumpguard can be bought off the shelf from Australia as they were a standard fitment there, part nos. are A YH 230 for Mkl - the Special Tuning style of guard or BY A 8567 for the Mk2 guard. A rubber pad should be fitted between the two guards" Are they saying that the plates under the engine were physically bolted to the engine as opposed to the body?? Hi James
Sorry I can't help you with the two part sump guard question. I have never seen one or even a picture of one!
I suggest if you are looking to fit a sump guard the availability will depend where you are. The Australian cars were fitted with them from the factory after a while, due to poor roads. The UK cars were not. This makes a UK sump guard a very rare item. A picture of the UK sump guard can be found in the WM.
The works type I would think is very very rare! The Australian type you would probably track down in Oz.
The Australian type attaches to the body only not the engine, as does the UK unit shown in the manual. The fixing points are slightly different between the two I think.
The gearbox/sump is very vulnerable so it's a good idea if you plan to go bush with your car.
