Hi all!
Me and a buddy of mine have just bought a 1971 Austin 1800 S.
We've been looking for a easy project to work on as we are pretty new to classic car ownership (we are both 22) and want to improve our skills and learn by purchasing a project and doing it our self's.
We stumbled across her on a online add on the way back from looking at a very sad looking scimitar. It was in Coventry and we kind of just went in blind as it was a good price.
What we found was a great car with barely any rust (we Think?), a valid Mot and tax. So we bought her. Being a MGB owner we thought it might be a good decision as we have slightly more knowledge about B engines than anything else. But I decided to join in the hope the forum will be able to help me as you guys are far more experienced than myself.
The Car is a 1971 Austin 1800s Mk2 in LimeFlower. When we went to see it we didnt actually realise how rare these are (only 7 left on the road according to: Howmanyleft.co.uk) so we are hoping to bring her back to her former glory.
We currently have a issue where there is a lot of white smoke so we are thinking maybe a bad head gasket as there are no visible cracks in the block and plugging the brake servo didn't improve it much either. the guy we bought it off has had it since the early 90s and has only put on 10 miles in the past 3 years taking it to and from the MOT Center!
If anyone has any information or things to look out for then please let me know
Cheers
Brent
