Many here use Photobucket to provide hotlinks to their photos. I have just read the attached article "Photobucket has been allowing free users to host and link to images on its servers since 2003. If you wanted to host your photos on Photobucket and display them on some 3rd party site (also known as hotlinking) you could do that without being a paying member. This is an extremely useful—not to mention bandwidth-intensive—service to offer, and it's one of the reasons Photobucket has managed to amass over 10 billion photos uploaded to its servers by over 100 million users.
But starting last week, the company changed its terms and membership structure, and what once was free will now cost users a whopping $400 per year. Suddenly, billions of images Photobucket users had hotlinked online no longer showed up. Entire forum threads, like this one found the photo blog by PetaPixel, are now devoid of images." See www.dpreview.com/news/6875746538/photobucket-breaks-billions-of-photos-online-upsets-millions-of-usersThoughts and options? David

I downloaded all of my photos from Photobucket at the weekend (PB provide a download link.) When I get time I will load them all to Flickr, which I have mainly used for the past couple of years, and see about reloading essential ones from there. Sorry, but I am not being blackmailed. Flickr is easier to use anyway, and no adverts. The only thing is you have to delete the second line of the link which says something like 'image posted by peppiB on Flickr'

Heard about this a few days ago, major problem for a lot of forum posts, particularly the picture heavy users guides that Chris has put a lot of work into. Transferring to another host and then having to re create links to existing posts will take huge amounts of effort and time and it would be understandable if this didn't happen for a long time, or at all. I've always found photobucket slow to use and prone to failure. I won't miss it, I am sure a lot of other customers will feel the same and so will some of their advertisers.

I'm aware of this. It really is an attempt at grand larceny. By one of those strange quirks of circumstance, I have had a subscription account with PB for quite a few years for the extra storage and Ad Free priviledge. I should be all right. However, those of you still on a free PB account beware....
RetroRides is a forum I have njoyed for many years and a large number of their build threads have been decimated.
I have opened a Flickr account and have been trying to figure out how to use it.
Chris.

Flickr test pic: DSCN4561 by Penguin 45, on Flickr Seems to work. Not quite as intuitive as PB, but managable. Chris.

Hi Chris
I am struggling with posting a Flikr picture can you go through the basics for me. The picture is in Flikr. How do you link it? Do you type in the BBCode direct or are you getting it there another way?
Feeling a little dumb at the moment!! Not intuitive for me at all!!
