Does anyone know if the front inner wings are structural?

Oh, yes. That said, the bottom bit is much more structural than the top bit. And if the o/s (r/h) one has gone, the engine neeeds to come out to sort it properly. But we're good at that...

I think Wolseley 1800 wants to cut a hole in the passenger side inner wing vent grill to give access to the bottom pulley to resolve a timing issue. Could this be done by cutting the hole then welding a frame around the cut to put the strength back in.

I recall Tommy may have done this to change the camshaft in situ on his 1800 but from memory I think he re-welded the parts of the grill cut out. I've seen classic MPI Minis here ex Japan that have electric fans inside the wheel arch with a welded frame surround to maintain the structure. I think these may have been like this ex-factory. I'm curious about why this should be necessary. Once the radiator is out access to the bottom pulley shouldn't be a problem. What exactly is the timing issue? David I think Wolseley 1800 wants to cut a hole in the passenger side inner wing vent grill to give access to the bottom pulley to resolve a timing issue. Could this be done by cutting the hole then welding a frame around the cut to put the strength back in.

I was thinking about modifying it like the one on the Six.

Although I've owned many crabs they were all 4 pot so I'm not familiar with the 2200 crank pulley. Do you have a photo so I can understand what you would like to do. Thanks regards David I was thinking about modifying it like the one on the Six.

As requested Click hereAs you can see there is a panel on the passenger side that is removable. It is held in place with 4 self tappers, hence the question.

It would also allow you to change the camshaft in situ if needed - unless you have an early Mk1 engine.
Is there anything we may be able to advise on about the timing issue?

David Am OK for now, if I need assistance I will ask. Cheers Chris, do you think you could make a similar setup with engine in?

It might be easiest to cut away the bare minimum - 2 or 3 bars, say, then weld them back, rather than trying to change the structure. TommyDP and David are very good at timing issues, BTW. Chris.

Still very curious. Are you planning to use an adjustable camshaft sprocket perhaps and need repeated access?
