Hi Chris, welcome. We have met through the WOC. Keep an eye on the For Sale section - NickRS spots most of what pops up for sale in the UK. And Europe.
ADO16 was my first car - a Morris 1100. Happy, slightly distant now, memories.
Chris.

Hi Chris and welcome along
I had an early Riley Elf - good car til I blew the engine so I put a 1098 in before it was fashionable. Also had 1100. Dodgy rear sub frames on those, but very comfortable.
Hope you find a suitable 18/85 soon

Hello Chris, and Croeso.
You're right in as much as there have been quite a few advertised at around £6,000. These cars do tend to stay advertised for a while which to me indicates that either the sellers are holding out for the price or that after a while they do a deal for somewhat less and the car moves on. I sold my 18/85 in the middle of last year via auction, it was in nice condition without being exceptional and the hammer price was £3,250 which I was very happy with. I'll keep an eye out for you for cars coming up for sale. Keep and look out on eBay, Carandclassic.co.uk and occasionally gumtree. I haven't seen one in your price range for a while so when the next one comes up you'll need to act on it quickly. Are you bothered if it is a manual or auto?

The auto was a Borg Warner adapted for front wheel drive, it was a type 35 I think which was used in many cars and was generally reliable. Not sure what they are like on a 50 year old car though. I believe they have a separate oil supply so not sharing it with the engine which will help. I had a ride in one a few years ago and was impressed with how smooth it was.

Yes it was a BW type 35 3 speed. Unfortunately it wasn't very efficient and consumed a lot of the engine's power making acceleration somewhat "leisurely". I seem to recall Tony C wrote some articles on the autobox worth perusing here David The auto was a Borg Warner adapted for front wheel drive, it was a type 35 I think which was used in many cars and was generally reliable. hi Chris welcome to a world wide site dedicated to the preservation of landcrab variants. the BorgWarner 35 type transmission was the biggest thing to happen in the late 60s, I think in Australia the production figures for autos in 1968 where higher than manuals, it was a big plus for the female population and came in many car types e.g. Ford, Volvo and so on. parts are still available, and transmissions can be beefed up with thinner steels in the clutch packs bringing in more friction surface, good for utilities and cars used for towing caravans etc. the 3.8 diff gives a very nice highway speed and having driven many miles in both manual and auto I actually prefer the auto. I have an auto here that may come up for sale 1968 un molested number plate UAD 017 although it is in Western Australia. wish you all the best. cptkennykidna.
