Well done Chris. I hope you repaired the damaged indicator prior to taking it for a drive. You can confess to the little mishap now

I have now had the car set up a little better by a man who has a little more finesse than me at these things. He also had a lot of meters and tuning stuff in the back of his van. It's running a lot better now and doesn't seem to be pinking. I'm a lot happier now to get some miles on it and run it in properly.
However. The running on issue is still there. I have been told that this may be because of the much higher compression and is a problem with those Austin sport coupe things that Chris likes so much and there is an anti run on valve to cure it.
So good peeps of the forum. 3 questions. 1 Has anyone come across this with mg's 2 What exactly is an anti run on valve 3 Where do I get one from

Chris, The voltage regulator off GLE that was taken off when the alternator was put on was a brand new one if its still kicking around your parts somewhere. Alternatavely I may have an old one somewhere if you want it.

Another new shiny bit bolted on today. Increased to 2 inch diameter to try to help things breath a little better. Just need to to find a rolling road in Bolton now to get things properly set up.

I have just been reading on another forum about a very nice Brooklands Capri that was stolen over the weekend. I know our cars are not necessarily as desirable and as easy to part out as a fast Ford but I'm just wondering how everyone keeps their pride and joy reasonably safe as just about anything from the correct key to a screwdriver will open my locks.

Looks good Chris. There can't be many places left to poke with that hole inducing screwdriver.

Thanks for the links. Looks like a fiddly job.
I also seem seem to have developed a running on problem. Is this timing ?

Had a run in the car today for about thirty miles.kept the speed down and the revs low but it seemed to run well. On returning home there seems to be a bad fuel smell and moisture at the bottom of the carb. I think a carb rebuild is going to be in order. Has anyone on here taken this on.

My advise would be to talk to Penguin about the welding. With the two land crab restorations I have seen him do I am sure he will have come across everything you can think of that would need welding.

It's in. All the bits are bolted on. Oil cooler plumbed in and fixed in place. Got exited. Turned the key. Nothing happened. I suppose I should have known better than it start and behave it's self straight away. After some fettling it was tried again and it's not gong to run properly. Plugs out out and put on the Arger to warm through. Engine turned over to lubricate and prime everything. Hot air gun down the plug holes to warm things through Plugs back in. Turn key and the beast comes to life. (Sort of) It's running but the fan is catching the shroud and the water pump seems to have developed a nasty noise.

Hi Chris I just wanted it to be standard really, but i think i will end up with electric fuel pump. I have done some research on different cams but any advise on cams would be greatfully accepted The type of cam you choose will need a lot of thought. Get the wrong one and you will really regret it. You need to consider what you want to do with the car. I have just put a Kent fast road cam in mine as I want the full power range at the expense of the top end speed. If you put a race cam in it will be a horrible drive in slow town traffic. My advise would be to contact a cam manufacturer or an engine builder and they will be able to match the cam to your needs.

[hot chocolate]Oh, you sexy thing....[/hot chocolate] Looking really very good. Getting excited yet? Chris. Yes. I'm looking forward to seeing what it drives like. it going to be under fuelled to start with as I'm going to run it on the single carb until the engine is run in.
