The fuel return to the tank on my car is simply via a piece of copper pipe fitted into the filler neck of the tank. The hole was carefully drilled with a slow drill and a 90 degree drill attachment through the hand hole in the boot. Pipe was fixed into place using the chemical weld putty stuff. A rag in the neck was also used to stop any swarf from the drilling going into the tank. Slow drill to eliminate risk of heat and sparks. The area between the O/S rear wheel and bumper mount is holed underneath. Ah. Standard. That's known as the fish tank. Part of the fun is to find out how many layers you have to chop out before you get a proper hole. I've done four layers... N/S sill just starting to go front and rear at the lip with the wheel arches. A little hole near a displacer mount. Two mechanics agree I've caught it in time. 😄 Again, regular stuff. Make sure it gets thoroughly doused with wax afterwards. You can get the front corner through the "A" pillar or there are access panels in the inner sill front and rear if you lift the carpet. Just did a couple of hundred miles in the car - wind noise through front door corner needs to go! Gearbox very whiney too, may try Miller's 20/60W. I had a lot of wind noise, which I mostly dealt with by replacing the furry Furflex trim edging with some edging with a tubular moulding in addition to the rubber door seals. I still get some noise from the top of the n/s door though. Beginning to think I need to find a large person to bend the top of the frame in a smidge for me. C. I hope he’s referring to himself as being small there and not me as being a largyfat git 😂😂

I've done something wrong here?
Grinding/rubbing noise as above and judder nudging it forwards in first on the driveway. Bit difficult to tell what the grinding is from that but the judder would suggest a clutch. Issue.

The scabby frilly window rubbers have finally given up. I bought some new ones a few years ago so today’s happy hour was going to be to change them. Turns out the metal on the rubbers comes away easy. The metal pins fixing them to the chrome strip however are made of something that doesn’t want to move after 50 years. I’ve wound the windows up to hold them in place overnight to let the glue cure. Hopefully by morning they wont be going anywhere.

Service time. Nothing exciting there, but an opportunity to re-do the selector housing gasket, which has had a little weep for a while now. Two services back, I replaced it with the standard emergency gasket (corn flake packet). It wept. Last service, I fitted one of the ones that my mate Ady made. It nearly fitted, and it wept oil. In the meantime, MrsP had made gaskets which do actually fit with her magical Brother Scan'n'Cut machine, so I've fitted one of them. It's 0.5mm thick. I have also removed 5 of the 6 studs for the cover and replaced them with 5/16" x 1" UNC cap head screws. Only 5? The bottom centre stud goes all the way through to the gear box housing, so I thought it had better stay. The problem is access to the nuts is restricted and there is a torque setting for the cover. Using cap screws allows you to use a 1/4" Allen key bit on the torque wrench far more easily. 15 lb/ft, BTW. Can we do that to my car?" Chris. That’s a good idea. Can we do that to my car. Because it’s leaking more now than before it was done last year.
