As you may recall, I am in contact with a Princess owner here who I helped with some carburettor issues etc. He knew of a crab as well as two Princesses in a barn locally. They are all for sale.
Well, today we went to have a look at them. What an experience!! The crab is an original Morris mk 2, 1968. White with black interior. It has not been on the road since 1980 and has covered 79 000 kms. A complete service record to prove. Looked a bit scruffy, but had amazingly little rust. Only one door had some rust holes on it, as well as a dent. No welding required at all. The sills etc had been treated with oil since new. Suspension had gone on one side. The engine, well it was complete and had oil in it and turned freely. I'm tempted to buy, he asked for about 400 GBP. We'll see.
Then the Princesses. They were both 1800, light blue with black vinyl roof. Totally complete and original and both engines turned freely. They have been standing there for 20 years or so. All cars were driven into the barn and working when parked there.
The Princesses were covered in piles of dust, but at least one of them wouldn't need more than a clean up and a service to pass the MOT, as far as I could see. They were also virtually rust free.
The Princess bloke is interested in one Princess, for a steering rack and a petrol tank while I can have the engine etc as he has a 2.2. I would also consider the other, better Princess to get back on the road.
So perhaps I'll end up with both a crab and a princess after today:-) Would make lovely summer projects, and there will be no shortage of engines if the troubled crab remains troublesome. I haven't heard from my cousin, who is working on it yet. Bet he's scratching his head too..
Well, what a lovely Tuesday afternoon:-)
