Brakes now sorted but as usual it was one thing after another. Got G valve rebuild kit and also had a chat with Ken Green who mentioned it's quite easy to plumb them in the wrong way round - he did it - so mentioned this to the garage while they were changing bits over in the valve itself and lo and behold it was thus - not sure who's fault, but no charge! Problem sorted but after another week of hard driving the servo gave up the ghost....now changed and all seems fine. Am off to Brighton Speed trials in a fortnight....wonder what my target time should be for the quarter mile? Standard car was 21 secs and a hot MGB is 18/19 secs. Also have annoying vibration at 1500 rpm have taken out heater which stops the noise/rattles but underlying vibration still there. Suspect it's either a result of too hard engine mountings or just a combination of stuff. One for the winter I suspect - but heater will have to go back in soon! Cheers

I have problem (with car!) that I suspect is G valve related. After very hard braking the brakes (appears to be rears) drag a lot - sometimes to the extent of making forward progress nigh on impossible. After waiting a few minutes all returns to normal and I can drive off. Calipers are recon and I've checked them again, master cylinder has been changed, servo tested and all ok. As above will check again the rear brakes/cylinders etc but failing that, sounds like valve may need a rebuild. Any views? All brakes pipes are new btw. Cheers

I know it's easy to fit the symptoms to one's pre-conceived idea of the issue but it "feels" like it's fluid not returning properly, as given time, it does return! Handbrake is now between the seats. Still finding the exhaust a bit boomy on a run..it's fine at 60 mph and at 85 mph plus but in between it gives you a headache after an hour or two (or could that be the fumes from the gallons of dinitrol!!). Obviously can't go everywhwere/anywhere at 85 plus so Maniflow (the exhaust people) have said they'll have another go foc. The advantage of having to go 60 mph is I'm getting 30+ miles to the gallon which is a pleasant surprise - it was high teens prior to the rebuild.

Well, had a great weekend at Brooklands. I know the VSCC gets some flak from some but they were a pretty broad church this weekend and the whole thing was organised extremely well. This fellow wasn't going anywhere but I thought he/she looked nice! Here's me in position for the concours(!) But as I was the only Landcrab they put me in with this lot for judging !! The judges were very complimentary about Landcrabs and I won my class by default as I was the only Crab. Here's a lovely Model T - the guy carries a tin of Brasso with him permanently.. And a couple of other interesting motors (the one on the right is steam powered). Sunday was driving tests - like an autotest really - and the car went brilliantly until I made the mistake of getting slightly airbourne at the front and applying the brakes in mid air...on landing, the car wouldn't move - like the brakes were jammed on and then after a minute or two they'd free off. It kept doing this after hard application of brakes and in the end I had to call it a day.The car drove home ok under normal use and having checked everything else, I suspect I've hurt something in the master cylinder. Other than that really pleased with how the car went and it does beautiful handbrake turns by the way!

Still no pictures...engine running great - clonking over bumps was - as predicted, steering rack so had an exchange one off Tony W and that's cured, as is fuel tank. Was putting new pads on the front and noticed one piston on the calliper was sticking but that's now sorted. Off to Brooklands this weekend for concours (!) competition (you should see the rest of the line up - vintage Bentleys etc!!!!) and autotest where I may stand more of a chance. Have been accepted for Brighton Speed Trials in September and another hillclimb same weekend so now looking for some more events to fill the gaps. Def some pictures after this weekend. Cheers Andrew

Cool - glad to hear - had similar problem of old tank/fuel/muck in float chamber on an old motorbike.....running it under load with the choke out seemed to clear it, but I'm sure there's a more professional approach! Glad you're sort of back in love. Andrew

I had a fair few of the symptoms you mention on my brand new engine, Distributor Dr Dizzy, brand new SU carb from Burlen etc ! Cured them all on a rolling road in an hour - it was just setting it up - difficulty is not finding rolling road, but someone who knows A/B series tuning inside out - there are not as many around as you would think! Good luck, don't sell! Cheers Andrew

Possibly stupid question - how does the tank breathe on these cars? Cheers Andrew
