Had her doing the pub run this lunchtime. She doesn't half creak on the driver's side! At least I didn't disappear through the floor
I fitted a new coil (at the same time as carb was fixed - took advantage of RAC guy pushing her away from the wall) Came out of pub, car parked in rather warm direct sunshine and .... she started first touch. Hopefully that is the problem sorted. When starting elsewhere, she must have been standing for longer than the 90 minutes she spends outside the pub, so coil would have cooled more enabling it to work.

So if she behaves again next week, you've cracked it!
Chris.

Just had same problem on my boat which has a ford crossflow (Watermota) in it. Hot starting was the problem and it was very intermittent - but you could put your money on the fact that in the height of summer at the front of a queue coming it of a lock it wouldn't go. After various bits of advice I changed the coil and hey presto no more problems. Hope your motoring is now trouble free. Cheers Andrew

Andrew - I had difficulty hot starting a Moggy some years ago and that was the coil. The coil fitted to Mo is under 18 months old. Just shows the rubbish being manufactured by China now
Chris - will probably take Merc next week. If the creaking is still there I know it is me and not the car!
