Hi All, Having just bought my first Wolseley six ever and have no experience of them but i am learning fast i have been trying to get my new purchase up and running but there is no ign light on dash it does turn on the key but want these probs sorted first?? I have removed dash panel and if i independently earth the yellow and brown wire from the ign bulb holder it illuminatess i presume this is the earth but should it not be black? Could anyone please tell me where all the earths are located as i think this is my problem as the clock works now and then and there is no power to the gear quadrant panel. Oh and the fuel pump does not run but i am yet to have a look at that sorry for all the questions but i have not got a workshop manual yet so any advice very much appreciated

Brown and yellow wire from alternator is the direct feed to the warning light. The light earths to the casing of the clock and on to the body. The earths are black and mostly attach to the instrument securing posts. There are several wires running off from them to the body of the car.
The selector safety switch is fed by the white and red wire from the ignition switch and then on to the starter solenoid.
SU fuel pump may respond to a light tap if it is getting power.

Hi Chris, Thanks for that but without sounding ungrateful how does the ign bulb earth to the casing of the clock when the holder the bulb pushes into is plastic and there is no part of the casing that touches the bulb holder and the brown/yellow is attached the the holder body? the only wires going to it are are a white wire and a brown/yellow??

A further investigation with a magnifying glass as well as my readers shows the white running to the white on the ignition switch, which is the "+" feed to the ignition coil.

Same set up as yours. Note lamp lit without being in the instrument. Finally, the lamp is fitted into a plastic holder, so there is no earth involved at this stage - the lamp is "in-line" on a live feed. Ultimately the white terminates at the coil and the fuel pump. So, continuity test from alternator to lamp, resistance check for lamp, then the other terminal through the ignition switch, or "+" on coil, or feed to fuel pump. Chris.

Hi Chris, I hope you didn't remove that dash just for me !! thanks yet again for the advice i had a quick look tonight but looks like the alternator wires are hidden in the depths of hell so a tomorrow job i think i will let you know how it goes

Looks like he just undid the 'service' screw (to allow for access to change bulbs) and took a few photos, nothing major -Andrew

Hi Chris, The elec prob is still unsolved but thanks to you and other peeps advice i think i'm onto it ie an alternator wire broken maybe? i presume i can get to the alt wires from beneath my Crab as i can't see them from above!! Also what workshop manual would you recommend for my 1974 Wolseley 2200 Automatic? as previous and help or advice very much appreciated

Any of the workshop manuals for the 1800 would be suitable for a lot of things, like suspension and bodywork. Would need to get a hand on a copy of the factory workshop manual to cover the 2200 stuff specifically, even if it's a Austin/Morris version.
A 2200 princess manual would help with engine stuff, if a 'crab one isn't available at the moment.

First one that Andrew's put up is the one you want. Very detailed, if frustrating to use due to the cross referencing system used. However all the info is there.
