If you get a bit of idle time over Christmas then this Youtube film of London in 1970 may be of interest. It is outtakes from their documentary filming which I assume were made to get stock for street scenes or views of buses. Note how uncluttered the streets look compared to now, with everyone going about their business without the excessive road markings that channel us about today. I only spotted five crabs, maybe you can do better. A few foreign cars to be seen by this time, Fiat 124s and a Renault 16 for example. Look out for the Aston Martin DB5 or 6 Nick Youtube

And the engines so quiet . I think I did spot more than 5 crabs, mainly Mk1 cars, but I would need to look again. You need to be alert so not after being stuffed with turkey and booze! Spotted a red one and a white one. Enjoyed the vans most of all! Chris.

I wonder if the red one is the same as the maroon Mk1, if not I will add it to my list David Spotted a red one and a white one. Enjoyed the vans most of all! Chris.

Fascinating movie! It's almost like you can smell the exhaust in some of the scenes:-)
I actually think I saw seven 1800s, all mk 1 Austin or Morris. Maroon, grey, black, light blue, white.
The Corsair was quite common, it seems. Strange, I think it looks awful.

I agree Tommy. My boss had one and it was awful to drive with terrible steering and was very uncomfortable in the back. One day the float chamber overflowed and the pipe that was supposed to take the over flow fuel safely away had gone missing. It filled up the "V" with petrol, ignited and blew the bonnet open. Luckily it was written off and he bought a Cortina which was so much nicer, and cheaper I believe. David The Corsair was quite common, it seems. Strange, I think it looks awful. Regards, T.

Tommy, agreed on the Corsair. I saw one recently and it looked narrow gutted and awkward. There are lots of Cortina mk2 in the film, probably a superior vehicle in many ways. I think the Corsair and Cortina Mk2 were both replaced by the Cortina Mk3 in 1970. Ford rationalised their range in a way BL never could.
The first Landcrab I can see is at 1:02 in the film at the back of the traffic queue on the other side of the road.

I think I'm up to four.......... Got the one at 1:02, then a green one at 2:26, a magenta one at 4:37 and a white one at 18:36, which might be RJN333D. It's not like I've got all this other stuff I should be doing, anyway. Chris.
