Well done Nick and Chris! I'll go and crawl back into my shell now I guess the prize must go to Nick for answering first with his clever twist of the word "shell" but with Chris a close second for identifying another answer as well. Not sure what this says about the adminstrator and moderators of this forum, all knowing this from a more gentle period of UK history when Landcrabs were still rolling off the production lines. Enough nostalgia! My first calculator had a red LED display and was made by Sinclair. It lasted at least two months before the multiplexing function to drive the dispaly went wrong which left all the 8 digits flickering rapidly. Changing the capacitor and resistor didn't do anything. Shame, Sinclair was so clever ahead but product reliability wasn't the best. David Pocket calculators became widespread when I was at an impressionable age.
