I found this fascinating video on Youtube which shows in some detail the guts of an A series engine and for Tommy a description of how to calibrate the camshaft timing. Many of you will know the features tuning firm Janspeed who together with Downton were responsible for tuning mods for the Landcrab rally cars and the optional BMC /BL special tuning conversions covered by the new car warranty. Janspeed Coper SIf only this type of info had been around the first time I rebuilt an 1800 engine armed only with a Haynes and BMC w/s manual that didn't necessarily agree with each other. Now which way did the thrust washers fit Enjoy! David

For those of you interested in both standard engine rebuilding and performance mods there are a series of additional videos from Janspeed with lots of practical advice and good quality photography. When you look at the first in the series, the start is the same as the earlier video I posted but it soon moves into more detail. Again all about A series engines but very relevant to B series. Interesting suggestion to bond fuse wire on the block between cylinders below the gasket to prevent blow through. These videos date back to 1989 and I think new B series gaskets have a reinforcement built in, am I right? Janspeed 1 Janspeed 2 Janspeed 3 Janspeed 4 of 4There is a good section on finding rust to amuse Chris Enjoy David Great video Dave! Fascinating! Don't get me near that camshaft timing thing... Tommy
