Snoopy came round today. We spent a happy (?) three hours fitting a new magic box in his Elgrand spaceship so that it now undestands and displays in English. Interesting experience.... The instructions were no help at all, but we did figure it out in the end. Then: VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Winter time. The local kids were fascinated. Covered in traffic film remover first, then this is snow foam. It has to be left to do its thing for a bit, so, seeing as the hose and cable reached. MrsP's wind-up caravan got done as well. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Some time later: VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Rinsed off with the jet wash and looking respectable for about the first time in three or four years. The car requires a lot more work..... Proper wash ensued, then out with the bluetack claybar, then the no. 2 polish, which isn't a polish, then cutting compound over the entire car, then another polish which isn't a polish, before the wax polish which is a polish. At least, I think that was how it went. I was allowed to operate the polisher and follow the detailing guru around the car. Time ran out before we managed the full final polish, so I have been issued with detailed instructions as to how to complete the job. Mind you, if he says "Don't drop the cloth" once more, there might be an outbreak of violence. Progress pics: VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Bonnet waxed and buffed up - finished as it's going to get. Lovely. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr The rest of her is very clean and pretty shiny, but yet to be waxed. I'll try and do the wings after dinner, then carry on tomorrow. Huge thanks to Mark. He has a genuine enthusiasm for this sort of thing which I rather lack. By the same token, I'll quite happily spend a whole day making and fitting a repair panel. Looking at the results, I do see why people find this sort of thing rewarding. There's a large amount of skill and patience required with a very visible result at the finish. Cheers matey. Chris.

Looks amazing....next thing you'll be pulling the engine to detail the engine bay! You're blessed living in the land of common sense - my mate who lives in Richmond, Surrey got a letter from the council threatening enforcement/fine if he washed his car in the street again...snow foam would have driven them over the edge! I don't think I was precious about my 1800 but once and sometimes twice a year I'd give it the sort of attention yours has just had - and get any muck out of all the nooks and crannies - probably as important! Good luck with final detailing. Cheers Andrew

I have polished the rest of the car. The roof has been compounded with G3 and then polished. Don't know if it's up to Mark's standards, but it looks good to me. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Interior next. Oh, I didn't drop the cloth. Chris.

Cheers, MrC.
Friend Ron came round this morning and tuned the car. I'd got out the WM, strobe, feeler gauges and other assorted things that might be useful. Ron pulled out a vacuum gauge and tuned the car..... Life-long mechanic, a "B" series was never going to present any challenge to him. At all. Twenty minutes tinkering and the drive was transformed. He also re-did the manifold/exhaust ball joint and it doesn't blow at all.
Not sure if I love him or hate him. Big thanks.
Chris.

Did you know that for some modern cars OBD2 data viewed using the app "Torque" on a smart phone or tablet show a vacuum gauge and old time mechanics can diagnose many engine problems using it far faster than wading through codes. I know I'm biased! Anyway Chris you've done your bit with all that polishing and reducing the drag - it looks good. David Cheers, MrC. Friend Ron came round this morning and tuned the car. Thanks, David. New stainless steel wiper blades arrived today. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Uh-oh. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr They certainly look the part. It hasn't rained yet. Mind you, this is Lancashire, so it will. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Gleaming front. Fancy over-riders. One had rotted out and I hadn't a spare, so the posh ones are on. Chris.

Awesome. That looks excellent, and loved. It has come such a long way since you dragged it out of the undergrowth.
