Closing panel made and fitted with the aid of CAD*. Pleased with that - picked up a couple of plug welds into the end of the sill membrane for added strength. As before, it'll need grinding back to tidy up properly. And that is about it for the near side sill section. Rubbed wing section down - doesn't look too bad. Probably needs another layer to get it right. Chris. * Cardboard Assisted Design.

This CAD has been used extensively when I rebuilt the rear corners of my Maxi :-)
Good progress!

I will need to think about PAD (plastic aided design) here in the tropics or the overnight ravages from termites could lead to some funny repairs.
Happy New Year everyone

Today I have been mostly finishing stuff off. Floor repairs are now ground back, etched, seam sealed and primed. Slow, boring and necessary. I have now started on the rear corner. Chop it all off. Now that it's off, you can see that the floor piece is rotten. New channel for the tank neck to pass up through. Pleased with that - will weld it on tomorrow. Proper bit of fabrication. Chris.

No budget, Dave. Besides, I'm having so much fun........ To be fair, it fits in with the college course very nicely. Fabrication, welding and finishing are the key ingredients, so a hands-on project to practice on is ideal. That's what I told MrsP anyway and she believed me. Grot cut out of rear inner arch and replaced with new metal. Filler neck tube in place. Getting started on corner panel - this is going to get complicated. Chris.

Great work as always, Chris! I'm glad to see you're active, which means you're recovering well.
I'm also happy Mrs P is strict and makes sure you take it easy!
Keep up the good work!
Regards, Tommy

Thanks Tommy. Short bursts at a time and we'll get there. Outer arch panel on properly. Corner trimmed, snipped, bashed and welded into shape. Closing panel in tomorrow and then see about getting some shape into the arch. Chris.

Chris, Looks like some great work and a sensible scheme with Mrs P in control of the garage door key. I took the boys to a steam railway over the hols and there was a locomotive in bits in the shed, on the biggest axle stands I've ever seen. I have great admiration for the people who just get stuck in and take these things to bits and make them good again. I'll let you know when I am next up in Wharfedale

I've started having a poke around the front of the wing, as I wait for various layers of filler to cure. Mmmm......... Bit of a disaster. I have this: I'm thinking of repairing the area below the headlight then lopping off about the front three inches around the wing top and front and transferring the whole lot across. Time for a consultation with Adrian, I think. Chris.

Agreed, guys.. Please take it easy, Chris! I fill ill looking at that wing, too..
You're the expert here, but perhaps a good idea to use the blue wing, which looks very sound. The lh wing on my blue one was not this bad, but had a few patches welded below the headlamp and on the lower rear part. Very annoying, rust bubbles pop out on these places even though this was well done adn treated before it was painted.
If I knew this, I would have put on another rust free wing. Sadly I didn't have one at the moment.

Nothing new until today I'm afraid, chaps. Not been too good and the cold is going right through me. Still, sun came out for a while this afternoon, so time to see what's really happening in the front of the car. Got the bumper off after a bit of a fight, to reveal this little lot. No power tools yet, remember - this has just been poked with my trusty chisel. Front shelf came off in my hands - appears to have been stuck on with silicone mastic. Big chunk of valance dropped off. The rest is coated with a thick layer of filler. O/s inner wing - didn't I take the engine out of Eugenie to fix this last time? This is a right mess - back of wheel arch. It's gone all the way back under the chassis rail. Going to have to get some heavier metal, me thinks. I'll start getting some new metal in one of these days. Ripping the old stuff out is all very well, but it needs to be balanced by replacement, even if only to stop me getting depressed! I'll see if I can manage a day at college tomorrow, then get started again. Chris.

Holy shit!
You are a brave man, Chris!!
I feel really bad about the one I sent to the scrapyard a couple of years ago..
I really don't understand how people can slab some filler on such rust holes, and then sleep at night, and above all drive it. It really is beyond my imagination!
Well, all the best and good luck to you Chris! Tommy
