Thanks for the kind words - I do love the 1800 but life is short and there are many cars! Am unsure who the new owner is but will heartily recommend this forum if he gets in contact and look forward to continuing to follow the trails, tribulations and successes of everyone on here. Cheers Andrew

Enjoy the new wheels Andrew. Its a nice car. Nothing like the sound of a V8! Hopefully we will see the crab on here still with the new owner. I'm sure no one will mind some Bristol 410 exploits either!

Not forgotten promise re seat mounting - put my back out and unable to move for 2 weeks and then the most god awful flu and confined to room for a fortnight +. Might have been the dreaded covid but doctor didn't test as I was on the mend by the time I got an appointment! Cheers A From what you are saying its very likely its the dreaded cv19 - the post viral syndrome is a very strong marker for it (the fatigue etc you mentioned). I've seen so many covidiots too - the US especially bad but the information on cv19 that's now coming out is a horror story. 6+ clades of it (separate genetic groupings, although technically not the right term) and about 60 different varieties. Disseminated clotting - so blood can be 400% thicker than is usual - and will block cannulae as soon as they're inserted (echos of The Andromeda Strain) . Switches off the innate (primary) immune messaging (interferons) and immunity and then drives the secondary immune system into berserk mode (cytokine cascade). This really really isn't a game and people are treating it like it is. Glad you seem to have recovered without too many issues. You might if you feel so inclined get tested for antibody donation if they're doing it where you are and your levels are high enough. The average is 750-1000 units of antibodies per unit of blood but some people superproduce to 10,000+ units of antibodies (I don't know the proper units) - it might be worth a try - because it can be the difference between life and death for some people. Sorry about the off topic screed but everyone just be aware - there is a growing amount of evidence that antibody resistance to this virus is time limited. As an example - get and survive cowpox or smallpox (do NOT be pregnant) you're immune for life. It's looking like we don't have a permanent immunity to cv19 so you can get reinfected after a time unfortunately and there are various versions with various severities including some lab isolates that go into a symbiosis with the host for a long period - no symptoms but shedding virus like mad (a modern version of Typhoid Mary). Get hold of an N95 type mask - and wear it religiously - they aren't perfect but they can protect you from infection and others from you if you are infected. Andrew - try to get hold of an antibody test kit - that'll tell you if you had it but what you describe - it does sound likely. Glad you've recovered and I hope you're enjoying the Bristol.

Thanks for the suggestion - will have a ponder! Bristol going excellently as far as I know - I've never driven another so have no idea what it should feel like but seems good to me! At least with the 1800 I had a lot of experience with them over the years which meant I had a benchmark. There are a few similarities between the cars - over engineered in many departments (good), relatively unique suspension arrangements (interesting!), and a loyal following many of whom maintain their cars themselves. Unlike many classic cars, developing and improving them is generally seen as a good thing, which is refreshing. As in the 1800 world at the moment, more cars than usual are popping up onto the market. I'm not sure I can fathom the reason - but there doesn't seem a shortage of willing buyers either. I still hanker after a Ute which I'd use for general running around and at some point a 2200 - perhaps I should combine the two! Cheers for now Andrew

Morning Tony Have had a look round and can't see any old pictures - sorry. From memory the radius arms have an indent in them so you know precisely where it mounts. Bristol has had it's cills done - I knew they needed doing, but it's covering them back up that's holding me up. There's a rolled and folded aluminium bit along the side that needs making up from scratch (both sides) and then I'm re-doing the kick plates in stainless. I'm waiting on local chap to get the correct aluminium and then set to work. With the amount of curves and steps in the metal it's far from straightforward so am in his hands. Then it'll need fitting and painting. Next thing on the list after that is power steering box rebuild, rebush front end, new shocks and at some point rear axle whine that only I can hear to be attended to. My Model A is still awaiting it's repro front axle from the States - delivery of which has been held up by Brexit, Trump, Covid etc etc. It has now got to Felixstowe I'm reliably informed. Am looking fwd to working on this one myself as it's relatively straightforward - even for me (famous last words)! Cheers Andrew
PS A few years ago I sent Snoopy on here some stuff about all the works mods which includes a bit about the ARB from memory - he may still have it, I can't seem to find it. Also good luck with wind noise - drivers side was ok but my passenger side was never great - particularly at high speed - tried all the tricks, different seals, adjusting the door. It all improved things but it just seemed that whatever you did the leading edge of the window frame wanted to pull away slightly at speed.

Thanks Andrew. 1800 sounds easy compared to your Bristol. Shall have a look at radius arms when weather improves. out of interest I worked in F building (the original chassis shop from the 1920s where Pressed Steel made Ford chassis) where we manufactured petrol tanks and 1100 radius arms.

My Mk1.5 registered late 1967 still had the fixing holes in the trailing arms despite the anti-roll bars being discontinued during 1965, so if you look at the parts list diagram and someone here with a Mk1 car can take a pic that would be a good start.
