Thanks - I seem to have more competitive (and faster!) car events coming up over the next couple of months than I've had all year so far - so will try and get some more moving pictures where possible. Was also wondering - as there seem to be more rally type cars being built and perhaps more importantly used these days, whether there'd be much interest in a low key sprint series for Landcrabs. It's not that difficult to organise and I'd be happy to take on the co-ordination for at least the first season. Am thinking probably best way is to write something for the next club mag and see if any interest. Cheers Andrew

I couldn't commit to a race series but I may be up for a track day.
Assuming we can get all the electronic thingimiggigs to talk to each other properly

Doing Brighton Speed trials this weekend coming - am doing the handicap - which is more lighthearted - they've given me the same allowance as a Sunbeam Tiger! They run 16/17 sec quarter miles as std and it's unlikely to be standard! We shall see!

Good luck! I think the Tiger is a bit faster than the Alpine but shouldn't be a problem for you. David

Well - Speed Trials was good fun - got into the low 18's which is hardly going to set the world alight but lots of friendly comments and was within a few tenths of other - more highly modified MGB engined cars so not too shabby. The following day was more light hearted and equally good fun but plagued in the afternoon by lots of rain and an accident (not me thankfully) which delayed proceedings. Hope you enjoy the short film!

Looking at the results, there was an Austin 7 only 0.2 seconds and 0.4 mph slower than you. Confused.....
Chris.

Not sure what you're reading - the actual times or the adjusted handicap. A lot of these 7's weigh 300 - 400 kgs and run 50-60 bhp - more if blown. I'm 1200 kgs and 90/95 horse... Cheers A

No response to my offer of track day in recent mag - no great surprise! Have just discovered that Bron - owner and driver of Puff - the Maxi - lives in same village as me. www.puffthemagicwagon.co.ukApparently she's also a keen golfer - my mate is greenkeeper at local course and has volunteered to arrange a meet at some point. Should be interesting to catch up on her stories.

I wonder how many mag readers know what a track day event is (apologies!). I'm surprised a certain fuel injected crab owner hasn't yet responded . It would be interesting to match your car against PUFF - maybe find out more about the engine mapping when you meet? I wonder how they stop the tuned Maxi from overheating? regards David

Been a bit quiet here - in fact car is so quiet, I keep finding new noises to hunt down, from the ticking of the fuel pump (no one else can hear it!) to the ever so tiny whirr from the electric power steering! Car back on rolling road to sort a few things I felt could be better. After much internet searching I came across a company called Novatech (in Slough) who do a lot with classic and race/rally cars and are very familiar with the 123 Tune dizzy I've got on board. Didn't find any more power (96 hp at the wheels), but got the same power with a lot less advance. Also boosted torque enormously by playing around with mixture and timing at the bottom end so now have circa 70lbs just off idle and 110 ft lbs by 2100/2200 rpm. Fellow also put in a separate map for 94/95 ron fuel which I can change over at the flick of a switch. Car really does storm around the place now. Am well pleased - particularly as the Dyno Dynamics rolling road is known to be conservative in the extreme - google "dyno dynamics heartbreaker" if interested. Off on navigational rally in South East France with it week after next so on with winter tyres and hubcaps I think for a change - for that sleeper look! Winter stat, oil and filter. Also have new daily driver - a classic Twingo classics.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/renault/twingo/Apparently - like the Aussie 1800 - all the seats fold back to create a double bed - haven't tried it yet. Great engine - 1.2 16V but now have new noises to track down with all that 16 year old Renault plastic. Cheers Andrew

That's impressive torque at such low rpm given your hottish camshaft. I guess they have richened the mixture to allow less ignition advance to obtain the same maximum power. That should be kinder for the engine. I was listening to your engine on the last video and it did sound as though it was a little flat around 3500 to 4000 rpm but I had no idea of the throttle opening of course. I don' t envy your mission to track down Renault plastic creaks it sounds on par with painting the Forth railway bridge!
Regards
David

Hi David - he was actually able to lean it off a bit as well - I think the flat spot might have been pilot timidity!
