Look at this - they're almost twins! James says "I love sealed beam units". This is Snoopy11's car, only it's second time out. It has a few problems to solve...... Bit of impromptu levelling, courtesy of the Allegro Club International. Still, good looking car and won't take a lot to get finished. Snoopy11 has joined the forum, so hopefully he'll keep us updated with the story. Chris.

Welcome to the forum! It looks very nice especially with the original servo and single carb. Chris keeps trying to wind me up with talk of twins but I ignore it Look at this - they're almost twins! [ Snoopy11 has joined the forum, so hopefully he'll keep us updated with the story. Chris.

Moi?
It's a very original car - sadly it was laid up for a very long time as a partially completed restoration due to the passing of the previous owner. Hasn't done the suspension any good at all and she's not charging properly. Still, back on the road, so with some miles on her and a bit of tweaking, she'll be lovely.
Chris.

Just needs a little TLC As for single carb and original servo, well I have that...well did until the servo gave up the ghost! I'm not bothered by it being replaced with a Lockheed, longterm I reckon it's best solution. As for carbs....go on....it's nice to say it's a TC -Andrew

What are the symptoms of the lay up on the suspension? Hydrolastic units, slipflex bearings etc? Regards David Moi? Hasn't done the suspension any good at all Chris.

Three out of four bags have failed - one spectacularly. Apart from that it seems to have survived reasonably well. Probably needs a good long drive to shake everything down.

The story to get to tatton at the weekend was quite honestly a path of pain. A week ago I noticed that the car looked a little wrong. It had a bit of a list to one side. After a bit of swearing and a phone call Mr P had unwittingly volunteered to come over and help me strip it all down. The rear near side displacer had gone. During the strip down we managed to shear a bolt in the aluminium mounting plate. Fortunately Mr P had one kicking around the garage to replace it with. Now anyone who knows Chris will also know he has a habit of finding rust. He managed to do this on my car by picking at a small scabby bit and managed to turn it into a big hole. This necessitated a drive to my dads to pick up the welder and a plate to bung it up with. That was Sunday. Monday was spent with a tin of sealer and underseal to tart things up. That was it until the weekend due to work commitments. The following Saturday was a trip to Preston to meet Tony to collect a new displacer. This was fitted on Sunday afternoon. Monday I pumped it back up. Tuesday quick test drive. All was ok for about ten miles. Just as I turned back into our street there was a bang and a hiss. The off side rear displacer had gone. (This created more of that swearing thing) Thursday after work I stripped it down again. Friday daytime my dad went to Blackpool to meet Tony for another unit. This was fitted on Friday night and pumped up. This time the test drive went ok. On the Saturday it was the intention to give the car a good clean. That was scuppered by me finding a crack in a tyre wall. To be fair I had been a bit of a skinflint when I put it back on the road and left the tyres on that it came with. A set of tyres later and an empty wallet the car got a wash for Tatton.

Hello Mark.
I didn't want to give the whole story away...... I'm really pleased that you got there. It wasn't that big a hole, really. And you'd have found it in the end anyway. AND - for a MIG with an empty gas bottle, we did pretty well really.
Chris.

I'm sure you will look back at this as just teething problems once it is all sorted Are new high tensile bolts still readily available for mounting the rear suspension carrier? I wonder why it is usually the rear displacer that fails even though this is much more lightly loaded? Regards David During the strip down we managed to shear a bolt in the aluminium mounting plate. Ripon show last weekend. Broke down twice on the way there. I have no idea why, a bit of prodding and wiggling of wires got it going again. On the way home after the show it did not miss a best all the way back. I'm starting to think the car does not like shows.

I think we need to spend an afternoon playing with your electrics. At your convenience.... I'm starting to think the car does not like shows. It's just shy 'cos it doesn't know anybody yet. And if you believe that, you'll believe anything. Chris.

That seems to be a worrying trend started by Chris' car. Maybe they have been talking together I'm starting to think the car does not like shows.

After discovering several bare wires at the weekend all the front lights are now working. Worryingly whilst looking for a replacement sealed beam unit I was told by two different suppliers that they are no longer available. Looks like a halogen conversion due over winter.
Picture to post but I have no idea how to do it. Chris. Help.

Looks like a nice car, sorry to hear about the little problems you've had. I suppose a long period out of use will bring all these to the surface once you get back on the road. Regarding pictures, I have worked out how to bring them across from Flickr.com and others in the forum use some of the other hosting sites. Nick
