Well not to fear, I have new set of cables for the handbrake, and I'm sure the normal type stretches too!
As for the engine, she seems to be holding the water ok. Took it out for another run the day I changed the coolant over and it got towards to the top N in a heavy traffic situation (got caught up in some boxing day madness). Open up the bonnet, a little bit of steam and it seems some of the coolant might of leaked out of the cap or hose going to the expansion chamber.
I believe this has happened before, where a little bit spills out after changing it, and the level settles.
As for checking the thermostat, I have no idea how to check it, any tips?
As for the head and block, I certainly hope I didn't crack it otherwise I'm gonna be carless for a long time. Would there be any ways to tell that at home? or would I need to drop it off to my mechanic?
She seems to be running fine as far as I can tell.
Edit: Also I can't see any white smoke and the coolant level seems to be holding, I am keeping an eye on it as you can imagine.

If it's holding water and running well you haven't cracked anything but be careful in future it can happen quite easily. To check the thermostat take it out and put in a saucepan of water, heat it up to ner 100C and watch it open, if you have a suitable thermometer all the better to check the opening temp. They aren't too expensive and I suggest replacing if in any doubt. Also give your rad and engine a really good through flush (when cold!) to clean it out as it may be gunged after the boiling. It is important that there is a good seal between the pipe from the header tank and the radiator as the former has the cap that pressurises the system. Any leak here will reduce the pressure and the water will boil at a lower temperature. Don't forget to ad fresh coolant (aka antifreeze) as this raises the temperature of the water boiling point further and lubricates the water pump and prevents corrosion, so not just for cold climates. regards David Well not to fear, I have new set of cables for the handbrake, and I'm sure the normal type stretches too! Cheers David, I suppose I get another lemon award for draining and flushing my system after a 2-3 minute drive to the folks house =/ but I did put in new anti freeze etc, and as mentioned this seems to be holding.
But now that you mention it the system must be losing pressure if it has been leaking from the top end.
Will take a look at the thermostat & header tank piping tomorrow and will also get a new radiator cap as I think the current one might not be sealing properly.
Cheers for all the tips mate, I owe you a pint!

You could always get it up to temperature then shoot some sheets of newspaper under the engine and keep an eye on things for half an hour. Dribble from water pump can be a s@d to spot. Replacing pressure cap on header tank is also a quick and easy one to eliminate weeps.

Cheers lads _b I took the radiator caps off today and popped off down to the shop on my bike, I didn't realize there were so many different types that look so similar! didn't buy any in case I got the wrong type.
I'll need to do some research and find out what type I need.
Also should have time tomorrow for the leak test Chris has suggested as well as the thermostat testing, if not, it'll have to wait until the new year.
Re the bluestreaksix link, they mention the block drain plug, I've seen this in my manual, but there isn't one on the engine that I can see of? .....

Not too much to report on at the moment. I did get that replacement radiator cap and seems to have helped a bit. Still need to get off my arse and check the thermostat. Also I looked at a Princess on Sunday, but had to pass up as I think it needed work that I can't really do at home with the 'crab there etc. Will wait for a road going on to come along. Heading off the the annual Ellerslie concours show this Sunday, will take some photos -Andrew

Is that Ellerslie race course in Auckland? It will be good to see the pics. Hope I don't see one of a boiling Wolseley with a blown engine because someone didn't check if the thermostat was jammed Regards David Not too much to report on at the moment. You have pointed out that an MGB will not make a suitable baby carriage.............? And that an 1800 is really a much more refined version of the MGB which they should have been making all along........ AND - a Princess is really a pointy 1800....... Well - you might get away with it.Chris.
