;)Hi everyone,
I have just purchased a 1969 Wolseley 18/85 that needs some work to return to the road. The previous owner took it off the road last year because the clutch stopped disengaging when the clutch pedal was depressed meaning he couldn't get it into gear with the engine running. On investigation I found the clutch slave cylinder was producing about 1/2" travel on the clutch release arm and was weeping. An attempt to bleed it caused the threads to strip on the slave cyl body so I have ordered a new one from Tony Woods. The clutch release arm "felt" ok, so i'm hoping the release bearing hasn't collapsed or anything and I dont have to take the engine out to fix the problem!
The engine runs sweetly and has been completely painted in a light green coloured paint. I'm told this denotes an MOD reconditioned unit which has a very low compression ratio and is designed to run on poor quality fuel or parrafin e.t.c.
Body wise it needs a bit of welding to the N/S/R sill, and possibly a new front valance welding in, although it could be repaired. Rear arches could also do with being replaced although they look perfectly MOTable as they are. Overall the car does look quite tatty with bits of surface rust, faded paintwork and dented grille. I still love it to bits and can't wait to get motoring in it!
There's a major blow from the downpipe which needs looking at, I may need a whole new exhaust system as the existing one looks a bit tatty.
It will also need a pair of tyres, 165/80/14's, they can be hard to track down at a decent price!
If anyone has any parts that could help me out they would like to sell to me i'd be grateful if they got in touch!
On a final note, A friend recently broke an Austin 2200 for spares. How easy is it to put a 6 cylinder engine into a 4 cylinder shell? Surely this has been done in the past a few times?
HAPPY CRABBING!
