Or, the camera lies.
Tony mentioned the lack of side mirrors on my car. It has been one of the things on the little list to deal with.

I've had one of these forever. Nice French mirror. No head and the arm is heavily pitted. I do rather like the style though and got to be better than fitting those TEX mirrors.

These chaps. Every MGB and Mini in the world seems to have them.

So this turned up from the bay of evil things and to be honest, it wasn't very expensive (£19). After the initial little frisson of excitment ("A parcel? For me?"), I lugged it over to the garage today and had a proper look at it. One mirror, one plastic base pad thing and two self tapping screws. The mirror head is pressed stainless steel and the glass is removable, which might be a good thing. The stem and the base are barely finished rough castings; the base still has metal flashing on it and the chrome isn't very shiny and doesn't want to be. The self-tappers don't fit down the holes in the base, are steel so they'll rust if used, and who fits mirrors with self-tappers anyway? Oh, and the plastic base doesn't even fit the foot properly. Rather disappointed and can't send it back, 'cos Brian of Britain here drilled out the holes to take M4 stainless set screws.

So, on with the motley. Made a nut plate to go inside the door. It should add plenty of rigidity. I suppose I'll just keep an eye open for the real McCoy.
Caveat Emptor.
Chris.
