Looking fwd to seeing the in car video of that performance - 60 in reverse must have been entertaining - how's your neck! Waiting for it in the post (blue bulb?) Update: Went for a drive today, well a breakdown. Miss-firing again, won't rev again yet was ok 2 days ago. Crawled home, parked up and dropped oil. Fix oil leak from oil pipe. Fix fuel leak. Fix oil leak from rocker cover. Condenser change, no improvement. Coil change. Working. This car hates me coz when I ran it, for over an hour, in the garage there was no oil or fuel leak. It ran beautifully.

Big thanks to Gordon and Mark for a tremendous effort. I'm really very grateful. I drove from Gordon's country idyll down to Preston to join my Wolseley Owners Club chum David for a spot of welding and rotisserie construction. I only broke down three times in thirty miles.. First one was a rotor arm with a rivet in. Second one the dizzy slipped and finally it boiled like mad when I hit some slow traffic in Preston. Ultimatley, it was all down to the Princess carburettor still fitted to the engine. HS6 with a waxstat attached to the main jet. It didn't work some forty odd years back, so why we assumed it would work now is quite beyond me. It was manically rich and quite unadjustable. By feathering the throttle very, very gently, it would go like stink. As soon as a hill was encountered and the pedal was pushed, popping banging and some really explosive back fires would occur. The white modern Audi which decided to drive an inch off my rear bumper backed of in a most impresssive manor when I hit the twisties just before Gisburn. So, straight into the garage. The re-con carb on the shelf went straight on after I'd worked out the sequence of brackets, spacers and gaskets to allow the linkages to work. A spare 45D dizzy was fitted so that Gordon can have the one from his car back and then I went mad and fitted the ETi100 electronic ignition box which had come with the engine. Got it all approximately lined up and tried it. The engine didn't even spin - it just fired instantly. That was yesterday; today I've got things set more exactly and she sounds quite sweet. Once I finish sorting out the earth problems with the front lights (nearly there!) I can go for a spin and see what we've really got. Magic box under coil. It's "old school". The points remain as a switch and the box fires the coil. My kind of simple. If it fails, disconnect the wire to the dizzy and replace it with a direct wire to the coil and you're back on points. Good to hear your car is home safely and running well now. I do like the ignition systems where all the components are away from the heat and allow for instant change back to the original, you can even fit a switch! The contact breakers are actually very reliable as triggers when they are only passing sufficient milliamps to keep the contacts clean and the timing stays put after the heel has bedded in. If it ever goes wrong it should be easy to fix.
Could you please let me have details of Gordon's "S" distributor as per the info request. The only "S" data I have so far revealed a distributor that came from a 848cc mini!

Gordon's dizzy from the "S" was a 45D 41415. 15° stamped on the cam, 4-12-8 on the vacuum capsule. I'm not sure if it is actually an "S" dizzy, as the replacement one I've fitted is also a 41415!
Should be able to go out for a spin this afternoon.

Same details as the one off the princess engine. According to the books the S should have a 25D - probably to save space. Haynes has 1 number 41238 Workshop manual 2 - 41234 (9:1) & 41035 (8:1 & 6.9:1)

There's a 41416 listed for the "S" 1970 onwards which is also a 45D. WM lists 41238 for the "S" before that - it's a 25D.

41415 is the 45 d dizzy for Princess and Marina 1800. Should be same as 41234 for 1800 (25 d)

Yup, definitely a multi-function dizzy, that one. Electrics are now fully functional across the front of the car. Don't know what the fuss was all about. That's what got cut out and replaced. Side lights..... ......Blackpool illuminations. Chris.

Test run today. Better. Ignition could be advanced just a tad as she's "holding back" under acceleration. Might have to enrich the carb a smidge as well. Interesting noises from the front left suspension. Back up on the stands for an investigation.

Yes, she's definitely in love with Gordon. She's been trying to kill me..... I had mentioned that she had to be held over to the right - this is why. N/s tie bar housing. The only thing preventing separation was the big cup washer, which was just big enough to hold things in place. Next to the one removed from Phil's car. We all know what happens next, don't we? Correct! Rust chopped out, new metal let in. Good thick stuff. And, welded both sides on the belt, braces and safety pins principle. Chris.

Tie-bar re-mounted and the other side checked. Whilst she's up on the stands, might as well deal with the other bits and bobs, starting withe new ducting in the wing. Not quite as rigid as I wanted, but not completely floppy. Ooh err Mrs... Tied off at four points, so it won't go anywhere. This also revealed that the outer end of the valance is going to need some love sooner rather than later. Then there were the two scabs on the end of the sill. Just had to poke them. A short time later: So that's the door got to come off to release the wing and get out old Sparky again. Chris.
