Hi David. Comments agreed. Have rechecked timing and set strobe to 10 degrees BTDC vacuum blocked off. Ticks over nicely at 6 to 700 rpm. Checked carb jet tube height and wound up one flat and stalls. Wound back one flat and momentary hesitation and then resumes normal tickover so shall leave at that. Peter Burgess says that will run slightly richer due gas flowed ports but OK to use standard filter and ignition settings. When the rain stops will give it a run.

Tidied up painted stripes today. Was a bit worried as small ridges of paint where edge of masking tape stuck. Tried a couple of things to rub down slightly. best result came from rubbing along stripes with white spirit on a rag , then buffing up. Cleaned off tape residue and paint high spots. No doubt as it gets successive clean and polishes it will adopt the slightly worn look.

Hang on! Yours is supposed to be mint - mine's supposed to the one with the worn look.... Chris.

Now you know they will never be perfect. Always leave something for the rivet counters. Saying that, I hadn’t the heart to drill holes in my new Cills so the kickplates went on with double sided tape. Someone will castigate me for the missing rivets!

Sounds a perfectly reasonable solution to me.

Decided to resurrect the old mud flaps as couldn’t really find suitable ones. A good scrub and a wipe with a thinners rag and i think they will do the job. Saw a set of GAC 166 which i think were the right ones on eBay . Cheeky g%t had them advertised at £95. I dont think so.......... There are lots of chancers on eBay. I SAY DING DONG will probably have some new stickers to suit those flaps. Fun site - repro stickers and decals for just about everything. C.

Pleasure. I'm fairly sure they're quite mad. Those look the business though.

Timely reminder with the damp weather. Went round to the garage to give the old gal a run. Back brakes stuck. Must remember to leave it in gear and handbrake off. As it’s all new brakes I couldn’t get as much clearance as I would like. Must do some heavy braking! All ok after a little run.

If it works, don't knock it.
Been absolutely bitter up here - snow on top of Pendle Hill and that's only a coule of miles away.

Spent the afternoon installing rear seat belts. Instructions of the boss. Just over £90 for set of two inertia and one lap belt, not too bad. only hiccup was one of the weld nuts wasn’t tapped. Good old BMC. Didn’t even know I’d got a 7/16 UNF tap so a pleasant surprise. Interesting that brand new kits still come with UNF fittings.
Another lesson learnt today was don’t leave the car too long between runs. Clutch was stuck to the flywheel. Eventually freed after starting in first gear and clutch and brake at same time. Feathered clutch a bit after that to hopefully clean up the faces.

I have just purchased a new harmonic balancer as the one on my motor may have gone hard after nearly fifty years. After searching i found that www.abingdonmgparts.co.uk/product/pulley-timing-marks%3A--mgb-1800/12h963 had new ones for £74 delivered. Not cheap but compared to some at £200 plus out there I think something of a bargain. Comes with both sets of timing marks. Tony S
