Hi, thanks for the welcome. Have a Morris 1800 Mk I. Investigating if there is a range of diff ratios available beside the two standard ones?

Sorry, none that I am aware of. Changing to 14" wheels is probably the only option to raise the gearing if that is what you would like to do.

Hi Sidd, welcome.
Standard MkI tyre is 13/165/80 and gives 842/tpm. Standard MkII tyre is 14/165/80 and gives 828/tpm.
Apparently an Ambassador 1.7 automatic diff will yield a higher gear ratio. Problem is to find one.
Chris.

If you find one, there is a good write up in the last 2 LOCI magazines from 1800heap (Nick)covering the diff rebuild and this is also available on the forum as part of Nick's posts in the thread "Looking for Moths" . That reminds me I need to copy the relevant paragraphs across to the Technical Section! Diffs Nick noted some incompatibility between crab manual and auto diff parts and there may be some other differences between the Ambassador and crab boxes. I think Tommy mentioned something several years ago but it may have referred to manual boxes? I assume the 2.0 L Ambassador auto used the higher ratio diff as well. David Apparently an Ambassador 1.7 automatic diff will yield a higher gear ratio. Problem is to find one. Chris.

Hi, thanks for the information, have done the 14" wheel option and Ambassadors are very thin on the clod in NZ.
