Hi
Well we did the Monte Carlo in Morag the Morris, a few problems, drive shalf coupling broke 100m from start in Glasgow. We were lucky the start was by the college were they teach auto mechanics, borrowed a ramp and made up parts we needed. Never had another issue after that got rid of rubber sleeves with some steel tube.
Car started over heating after 1200km. Turned out heater matrix was blocked which caused one side of head to get hot. By passed heater mattrix which helped things for a few hundred miles, apart from cold -10 and snow with no heater. Then water usage went up 200miles from end. Head gasket blown, car still started and ran but very high water usage, lucky no water oil mixed, Got another 50 miles or so.
Anyway we got to Monte Carlo, 2200km drive all in.
Car is being trailered back, in hind site we asked a lot of the car 3 adults and 100kg of tools and clothes across Europe. 26.3mpg average overall we expected 20mpg! Was a pleasant surprise, french roads are so good to drive on, apart from 150e plus of tolls.
The hire car on the way back was a Ford Focus ecotech. We just got our clothes in it. Tools Etc still in the Morris as the would not fit!!!
Lots of interest in the car across Europe, surprised how many people new what it was.
Few things we will be doing to the car rear suspension needs raised, automatic driveshaft couplings, intermittent wiper/new wipers, more power, heater needs looking at.
Rebushed gearbox was a revelation change was great after carrying out the work just clicks into gear. Going to see if we can graft a rose joint in and do away with the plastic putter sleeve and steel ball.
Overall what a comfy big car sat at 65/70mph no problem apart from M25 and M26 of course average speed 25mph. On one part of M25 with concrete surface, we though the car had broke all drive shalfs the noise from the expansion gaps ever 10 Feet concrete road surface and winter tyres was so bad we stopped to check drive shalfs.
Great fun, will do it again, with more preparation, 5 Months or so was just a bit to much of a rush.
