I will try and follow this up again with the organisation that holds the engineering drawings and some of the original Dunlop equipment but I don't hold out too much hope as they were trying to find a component manufacturer that would make the units as a favour to support the heritage at a reasonable cost. There was some positive progress being made prior to 2020 but the world has changed so I don't hold out too much hope. The ADO16 club were leading the project as they have many more potential customers. As an aside I recently rode in a Citroen DS that had been converted to coil-overs and it was so disappointing. I still think it is a glorious looking car but appreciate not everyone agrees. I believe I would feel the same about a Crab, even with air suspension but without that hydrolastic feel it would never be the same for me. Inevitably the time will come when there are no more displacers available and some difficult and expensive decisions will need to be made. David No harm in following up with them again, i think exploring crowdfunding could be an option if costs can be confirmed. Would also be worth consulting with British Motor Heritage to see what advice they might have, they would also have a good idea on the future market, seeing that they hold extensive drawings and manufacture parts. Speaking of hydragas, if the MGF was using it until 2011, then there should be more spare units available out of those vehicles given their age? I wonder how easy it would be to retrofit these into a landcrab? Has anyonoe tried this?

Unfortunately the hydragas units are far rarer than the hydrolastic displacers which is why there are coil kits for MGFs commercially available.

Im surprised how rare hydragas units are, there is probably a higher chance of getting those remanufactured than an original hydrolastic displacer. I see rimmer bros have the units available, I should really keep an eye out on some wrecked vehicles, would be fun to explore the possibility of retrofitting these to an 1800 and would consider it an upgrade. Im not too sure how the MGF hydragas units differ to those on the Austin princess?

I imagine that the hydragas displacers fitted to late Maxis would be the most compatible as they were made to replace the hydrolastic units on earlier models. The MGF units would probably not be suitable being designed for a lighter vehicle. When the Austin/Morris 18/22 series (later named Princess) was being tested a number of Wolseley Six vehicles were fitted with hydragas units but I never saw any feedback. My only first hand knowledge of replacement (remanufactured?) hydragas units in a MGF were not encouraging and gave a very bouncy ride. Whether this was a problem with the units or installation I am unclear, but I know Citroens can suffer like this too.

Yeah I would expect bouncing if they were designed for a lighter vehicle. Good point about maxi displacers, that would probably be your best option, but dont think they would be overly easy to find. Ive driven a Citroen and it was a very bouncy ride, albeit soft, was later told it was adjustable with some drivers controls apparently.
