Just been rummaging in the garage and found a rack. There are 32 teeth in the wheel box. I suppose you could just feed the cable through after you get the tube back on. The position of the shafts for the wiper won't matter, as you can align the wipers on the splines as you like.

Hi Indy,
Pretty sure that they changed the bottom flange of the block on the transverse engine. Clever in a way, as everthing else apart from the oil pump is the same.

I had a spare heater unit on the shelf, so I took it apart to re-foam the flaps and free off the motor, then fit in the car. Did all the work then realised that it's from a MkIII and doesn't have the switch gear on the flap levers. I will deal with it next weekend. Chris.

There are 47 self-tapping screws, 4 set screws and 2 push fix fittings holding the heater box together. Another hour of my life I'll never see again.

Good info, James. Craftsmen who still have knowledge of the cars are priceless. They say that the world is a smaller place these days, but many things still come down to a bit of local knowledge.

Camshafts were as follows: 12H 34 Early MkI. 12H 2345 Late MkI - No fuel pump lobe. 12H 2346 MkII + III - with pump lobe. Superceded to CAM1179. 12H 2746 "S" models. Can't find any reference or application for 12H 2340. 12H 2345/6 both have the same profile: Inlet 5/45 Exhaust 40/10 Cam lift 0.25" Duration 230° I made enquiries with Newman Cams - www.newman-cams.com/ - about 18 months back. No problem making a cam to that specification. Cost then was £170 + VAT, which you wouldn't have to pay, and shipping, which you would. Hope that helps, Chris.

Haven't heard of anything being used as a replacement. That said, the problems with the standard Lucas set-up are pretty simple. Wear in the bearing and gear on the wheel-boxes is the common fault and they are available as replacements, as is the cable drive if required. S-V-C COMPONENTS. Chris.

No idea on the speedos. I could dig up the BMC/BL part numbers if that would help. 1376 will be the TPM - turns per mile. My speedo isn't visibly marked.
There are only two diff ratios. 3.88:1 and 4.19:1. This is shared across all models. Allegedly the diff from the Ambassador 1.7 auto will give a better ratio, but find one...... Nick might be able to fill you in rather more on differentials.

It's been discussed before, James.
The displacers will only handle so much load when shocked. The load is displaced to the displacer at the other end of the pipe. If you isolate one from the other, any impact will be trapped in one displacer, rather than dispersed, which will massively increase the loading on what is basically a 50 year old rubber spring.
I suspect that your ride quality will become bouncy, rather than wafty. Personally, I think that's one of the best features of the car.
BTW, if you do blow a bag, you can still drive at up to 30mph on the bump stops.

Can be done.
FOR.
Perky acceleration. Economy on long runs.
Against.
Appalling fuel economy around town. Custom exhaust manifold, or attack your present one with an angle grinder. Getting to be rare things..... Improvise linkages. Improvise air cleaners. Spend days of your life balancing the little s@ds and trying to work out the correct needles.
MGB inlet manifold drops straight on.
I suppose the thing to bear in mind is that the MGB and "S" engines were developed as whole things - simply dropping on the extra carb won't take you there. I ran SU HIF44s on my 18/85 for some years. Fun, but never quite right.

Strange. Having watched Paul's restoration and had a good look at the car itself, I would have said that it underpriced, yet its cutesy little brother is the same price. That said, the estates are apparently very rare.
