Hi there, I've got a few spots of rust on the front of the bonnet. I want to remove the chrome strip so I can treat it properly. Looks like the strip is just riveted in with Al pop rivets. Is there anything else I should be wary of before drilling out the rivets? Regards Paddy

It's straight forward. I've drilled them out, and used screws to put it back.

I don't have a chrome strip on the front of mine, and have often wondered if maybe there should be. There isn't any evidence of holes or anything there, but they could have been filled in when the previous owner had it repainted several years ago. Did all 1800's come with this chrome strip?

Hi Ben, I reckon they did. The MK1 & Mk2 in Oz do. By the way I spoke with an expert here who told me that if there's rust bubbling through the paint the whole lot has to be cut out - as its double skinned so working on one side wont suffice. If that's what happened to yours the strip may have been removed. the chrome (Al) strip looks nice and its just a simple fold.
