Hey guys, Yesterday took morris for a spin around the local area. Had my son in the passenger seat and when we cam back I noticed that his seatbelt would not retract.
Its jammed somehow, not sure if it got twisted inside(?) or its just worn out due to age, as it is the original one. The driver's side was replaced about 10 years back I think.
I was thinking about opening it up, but I'm wondering if its just time to replace it anyway. thoughts and recommendations.

This may sound silly, but drive car backwards (not too quickly) and brake! Sometimes this can free the ball inside. Mine always jam when on a hill!

I had a Citroen GS which had to have the passenger belt released exactly like that! My current belts in the 18/85 work on a pendulum rather than the ball bearing and need the brake box to be ever so slightly leant forward to ensure they operate properly. As a consequence, they occasionally stick. Chris.

Well tried the old backing up but that didn't do anything. So took one side of the reel cover off and could not see any issues. I manually wound the belt in and it was really stiff and spring tension only was able to reel for short sections. I reckon its dried out and full of dirt maybe. Perhaps springs have worn out? Is it possible to service the unit. Its the original Kangol.
I sprayed plenty of WD40 into it and that helped. it retracts now but not fully. fells okay when I put it on, snaps back when I yank it. Just won't fully retract.
I'm considering to replace it because its different than the new one on the driver's side. And its the one my son uses in his booster chair. how much are they and are they easy to replace?

SECURON have them listed. You do need to find a local stockist, though. Chris.

Thanks, I have a local parts guy who is pretty good at getting me anything so I'll enquire down his way. The one on the driver's side is also a kangol, Haven't checked the part no. on it. But I can't find any listings for new kangol belts.
Though I have managed to tighten the spring on the unit and it is now retracting fine. but probably still put a new one in.
