I have a mark 2 ute which has now done 7 variety bashes across Australia. About 3 years ago, the slipflex bearings on the front suspension wore out. Unable to find replacement parts, we decided to change the front suspension to Mark 1 type which has roller bearings. We changed the upper arm and hub. The problem now is that we have to put a washer over the tapered washer in order to be able to fix the axle nut with a split pin, otherwise the nut goes too far past the hole in the axle. This has fixed the problem for a time except that now the passenger side nut, despite the split pin in situ becomes loose after a long run.
Is the problem with the hub, axle, or do I need new tapered washers? Or do I go back to mark 2 hub and Mark 1 upper arm?

I hope someone here can help so we can enjoy some more. One specific and I think could be relevant question someone may be able to answer is whether the wheel bearing spacer is the same dimensions on the Mk1 and Mk11 hubs?

I do not know if you know this but...
When you are refitting front hubs you have to tighten them initially with out the cone washers fitted. You have to use a large thick washer or tool 18G 1104.
when hub flange located properly fit the cone washer. Torque to 150 lb.ft. (20.74 kg.m.). If the split pin hole needs moving always tighten and never loosen the nut. If this does not cure it then you will need new cones - see Tony - landcrab.net
If he does not have any try hens teeth, they are easier to find.

Forgot to mention,
Some early bearing assemblies had a distance washer with spacers so the bearing does not go too far into the hub. Can not see them in the parts catalogue but are mention in the service manual.

From the BL 1800 Workshop Manual: NOTE.- 2. Some early bearing assemblies have a distance washer with the spacer. No other information is given..... Which is nice. Presumably this is in addition to the tube spacer on the shaft. Chris.
