This one just came up locally. It's not been sold yet, and according to the owner (on a Mini forum) it will be scrapped next week. I've said I'll take it, if it doesn't sell. It would be too sad to see it at the breakers. Actually I've owned this car before. I saved it from the crusher about ten yrs ago. However, I started on the blue one and the car was part payment for the welder! It has no engine at the moment, suppose it's in a Mini somewhere. It has some rust, but all panels come with it. Perhaps a good project for me to learn to weld on? Otherwise, it's complete. I'm already investigating sources for an engine. It's quite rare, as there were few mk 3s here. Amazing, you have already owned the car. It looks quite straight but I would imagine there could be some challenging welding for you to practice. Certainly if it was in the UK or here that would be the case. At least you can remove the sub-frames. Is it just the engine that's missing or the transmission / drive shafts etc as well? As far as I know, only the engine itself is missing. I've already come in touch with a guy who has a running and complete engine and box for sale.
The welding is mainly what appears to me quite simple. Floor bottom etc.
We'll see. Scrap price is around 300 GBP, I guess I can have it for that. Then the other guy wants another 300 for the engine..

Sounds a bargain. From what I recall the body where the rear sub frame mounting is fixed rots and could be expensive to repair. But I think it is probably just an issue of the time involved rather than the complexity, similarly the front trumpets. There again it may all be sound. The sills are similar to the 1800 but smaller. The 1300 I saw here looked fine until I opened all the doors at the same time, bounced the car and heard a groan from the rear suspension pivot bearing, I think, and they would not shut again. Sounds like a good winter project. Bulkhead and inner wings also need to be inspected very carefully.

Tommy, I was a member of The 1100 Club for a while (didn't get round to buying a car though). Their website has some very good content in the members section, technical articles, stuff for sale &c. Well worth joining. Values for 1100s here seem to be very low unless they are mint.

Time for an update!
Well, I didn't buy this after all.. Not up for all the welding, getting a complete engine etc. Want to make the 1800s even better in stead.
However, I almost bought a 1965 Austin 1100! I went to see it this evening. It's all complete but hasn't been on the road since 1990. The engine was rebuilt just before it was laid up. It starts and runs and everything works though. One lady owner since new, it was actually sold by the BMC dealer where my grandfather worked. It was almost immaculate inside, the suspension was excellent, all electrics worked and the engine sounded sweet..
BUT, rust... Amazing how these cars can rust... It has been in the driest climate of Norway all its life, but despite my hopes it was disappointing. Especially as I don't weld myself. Inner wing trumpets had large holes, front and rear part of sills as well as some places of the sill to floor panels. There were also holes on the inner wing, by the starter solenoid. In addition the rear subframe front mounting areas were suspect. All the usual places in other words.
Really sad as the rest of the car seemed so good. I'm sure i could have had it for GBP 500 or even less, but I'm not up for it because of the rust. It will cost a lot of money to put right, as I don't weld myself. Panels seem available though...

If you learned to weld you could keep warm at the same time . That's my biggest regret not learning to weld other than the very basics. Here it is just too hot to even contemplate any welding that takes more than a few minutes. I think a total rebuild of an 1100 would be quite challenging. David Time for an update!
